    • Obit:
      Benjamin J. Valentine, born in March 1835 Franklin Co., MO, was the son of Eli Valentine and wife, Nancy (Childers) Valentine.

      B. J. Valentine married Martha J. Childers on Dec. 10, 1857 in Franklin Co., MO. By the 1860 census, their family consisted of two small children, and resided in Boon Township, MO.

      In 1862, B. J. Valentine enlisted as a Private in Co. I, 4th MO Cavalry, C.S.A. His paroled release was dated June 1865.

      By 1867, Benjamin and his family resided in Tarrant Co., TX where they were listed on the 1870 and 1880 Bedford, Tarrant Co., TX census records.

      In October 1899, he purchased 640 acres in Donley Co., TX. Within six months, his wife Martha (Childers) Valentine died and was buried in the Clarendon City Cemetery. On the 1900 census record he was listed as a widower living next to his daughter and her family, Lou Ella (Valentine) Williams and husband, James Marion Williams.

      In 1902, B. J. Valentine attended the Confederate veterans reunion in Dallas, TX. He died in 1904, and was buried in Bedford, where he had served as an original director of the Bedford College chartered in 1882.
