Notes - Elizabeth and Nicholas settled first in Dornach, Haute Rhin and stayed until 1829. Then relocated to Zellwiller, Bas-Rhin and maintained close contact with Elisabeth’s oldest brother Christian in nearby Niedernai until Nicholas’ indebtedness to this brother-in-law for farming supplies and labor became excessive and then was never repaid, as revealed in Christian’s housebook. Soon Nicholas and Elisabeth went their separate ways.
