PAXTON — Lola E. Unzicker, 98, Paxton, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday (June 4, 2014) at the Illinois Knights Templar Home, Paxton.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton, with Rev. Terry L. Westerfield officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Visitation will begin one hour before the funeral Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Unzicker was born April 5, 1916, in Fisher, a daughter of Bartley and Maude Trotter Suttle. She married Willard J. Unzicker on Dec. 25, 1938, at the Shiloh Methodist Church, Mahomet. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1994.
Mrs. Unzicker is survived by two daughters, Karen (Ron) Baird, LaJolla, Calif., and Joan (Bob) Bixby, Paxton; five grandchildren, Daniel (Lynnette) Bixby, John Bixby, Becky Bixby, Jeff Baird and Julie Baird; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Unzicker graduated from Fisher High School and received her teaching certificate from Illinois State Normal University. She taught at the Fisher Country School, Paxton East Lawn Grade School and was a substitute teacher in the Paxton schools for several years. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Que of Paxton for a couple of years. She and her husband farmed in the Dewey, Fisher and Paxton areas and moved from Fisher to Paxton in 1953.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Paxton, and the United Methodist Women. She and her husband were active in the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau. They spent their winters at their home in St. Cloud, Fla., for many years. She enjoyed embroidery and crewel and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Paxton; Illinois Knights Templar Home or Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
