Nafziger.- John, son of John and Mary Nafziger was born in Little Mackinaw Tp. April 7, 1868; died at his home south of Hopedale, Ill., Aug. 12, 1917; aged 49 y. 4 m. 5 d. He had been in failing health for some time. Until last Thursday he seemed to be improving, but at that time he began to fail, and death came as a relief. He was married to Lydia Litwiller, Aug. 28, 1890. Nine children were born to this union, namely, Alma Sutter, Leah Good, Martha, Amos, Orrin, Mary, Fanny and Agnes, who with his wife survive him. Edna died in childhood. He is also survived by his aged mother, two grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, other relatives and a host of friends. He was a faithful member of the Amish Mennonite Church, and will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived. The funeral was held at the church Wednesday morning Aug. 15, and was in charge of the home bishop J. C. Birky and Bro. Andrew Schrock of Metamora. Text, Jas. 4:14. The services were largely attended by relatives and friends. Interment was in the Amish cemetery.

FISHER — Edna Sutter Springer, 98, of Fisher, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 13, 2015) at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.
She was born Sept. 8, 1917, on a farm near Hopedale, the daughter of Lee and Alma Nafziger Sutter. She married Roy Springer of Saybrook on Dec. 30, 1939, at Hopedale. They made their home on the Springer family farm near Bellflower and farmed there. Roy preceded her in death Oct. 7, 2011, at the age of 96.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Carol (James) Rhodes, Topeka, Kan.; two sons, Royal (Beverly) Springer, Fisher, and Keith (Kathleen) Springer, Saybrook; and foster son, Mark (Mary Jo) Bodenhamer, Newbury Park, Calif. She had eight grandchildren, two foster grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Dr. Willis Sutter, Eureka, and Dr. Earl Sutter, Goshen, Ind., and two sisters, Lela Sutter, Goshen, Ind., and Jean King, Aiken, S.C.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernal and Dennis Sutter; and four sisters, Ina Sutter, Oleeda Albrecht, Miriam Albrecht and Alice Wenger.
Edna graduated from Hopedale High School in 1935. She was baptized at the age of 14 at Hopedale Mennonite Church. She attended a short-term Bible class at Goshen College, Goshen, Ind., which proved helpful to her during her years as a homemaker, Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher. She was a member of East Bend Mennonite Church, where she was active in Mennonite Women, a service organization that sews clothing, comforters and quilts for the needy. Edna and Roy and their family served at Alexander Chapel (AME) at Gibson City for three years. After retirement from farming, Edna and Roy moved to Fisher. They worked as volunteers for 14 years at Ten Thousand Villages, a fair-trade store that provided a market for artisans in developing countries.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Bend Mennonite Church, rural Fisher, with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30  to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour before the service Saturday. Burial will be in East Bend Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sutter Scholarship Fund at Goshen College, Mennonite Mission Network or East Bend Mennonite Church.

GOSHEN - Carolyn Marie Zehr, 83, was born May 17, 1931, in Bloomington, Ill., the older of two daughters to Raymond and Fannie (Nafziger) Sommer.. She died Sunday afternoon at her home.. Carolyn graduated from Bellflower High School in 1949. She completed her registered nurses training August 1952 at the Mennonite Hospital, Bloomington, Ill.. She married Wesley Jay Zehr on Dec. 21, 1952. She worked at the Burnham City Hospital and Tuberculosis Sanitarium and raised their three young boys while Jay was in veterinary school. She was a member of College Mennonite Church since 1960. Her compassion for others led her to become one of the first nurses at the Greencroft Healthcare Center, and later, a volunteer for several local nonprofit organizations.. She is survived by Jay and their three sons, Eric (Luisa) Zehr of Goshen, Brian (Kyla) Zehr of Fort Wayne, and Jeff (Lana) Zehr of Inman, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Darla (Steve) Schrock of Phoenix, Ariz., Amy Zehr of Indianapolis, Evan, Erin and Andrew Zehr of Fort Wayne, Lindsey (Jake) Adams of Greenville, S.C., and Allison Zehr of Inman, S.C.; one great-grandson, Samuel Schrock; a sister, Charlene (Roger) Haines of Mishawaka; and numerous nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Koinonia Room of College Mennonite Church in Goshen.. An 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted Saturday at the church with the Rev. Phil Waite of College Mennonite Church and the Rev. Dawn Yoder Harms of Assembly Mennonite Church, officiating.. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the College Mennonite Church Jubilee Fund.. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, is assisting the family with arrangements.
