“At one time Jacob owned 1,570 acres of land in Bureau County, IL and 320 acres in Lee County, and was half-owner of the hotel in Princeton known as the American House. “

A large bank barn was built by Jacob and it is still standing, located about two and one-half miles northwest of the “Red Covered Bridge” in Bureau County--has hand hewn walnut beams.

"Pre. JOHN ALBRECHT

On the 12th of February, 1900, in Livingston Co., Ill., Pre. John Albrecht passed peacefully away at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 22 days. Deceased was born in Bavaria, Germany, on the 20th ofNovember 1833. When he was four years old his parents moved to Bureau Co., Ill. He was married to Anna Gascho in 1859, To this union were born six sons, of whom four preceded their parents, the mother dying fifteen years after marriage. Bro. Albrecht married again in 1874, his second wife being Barbara Nafziger. To this second union were born four sons and three daughters, all of whom followed their father to the grave. Although the words of Psalm 128 were fulfilled to Bro. Albrecht in temporal as well as in spiritual matters his heart was not set upon earthly things. He was afflicted for some time with heart and kidney trouble and seven days before his death he was rendered helpless by a slight stroke of paralysis. He remained conscious however to the end, and suffered no pain. Although not as eloquent or fluent a speaker as some, he was honest and earnest, and a faithful counsellor, and his loss in the church as well as in the family will be deeply felt. On the 15th of Feb. his remains were laid to rest, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Funeral services at the M. H. by J.P. Schmitt in German from 2 Cor. 5, and by Joseph B. Zehr in German from 2 Tim. 4:7,8 and Matt. 25:23. Daniel Orendorf also spoke from 2 Cor. 4:17,18. Besides his wife and nine children, deceased leaves eight grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters and many other relatives and friends.”

“John was the oldest son of Jacob Albrecht. Although he inherited land from his father in Bureau County, he purchased a farm in Waldo Township of Livingston county and there, raised his large family (14 children from two wives).

Albrecht.-S. A., son of John and Barbara Albrecht, was born in Waldo Twp., Livingston Co., Ill., Aug. 31, 1883; died at the Mennonite Hospital, Bloomington, Ill., after being ill about one week, May 25, 1947; aged 63 y. 8 m. 24 d. On Nov. 29, 1905, he was united in marriage to Ida Yordy, who with, with the following children, survives: Wilbur, Glendon, Marvin, and Dean, also eight grandchildren, all of Flanagan, Ill. Three brothers and one sister also survive: Ben and Peter, of Flanagan; William, Columbia, Mo.; and Susan Ingold, of Flanagan. Six brothers and sisters predeceased him. In his early youth he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour, uniting with the Waldo Mennonite Church and remaining an active member throughout his life. He was active in many civic organizations. Funeral services were held at the Waldo Mennonite Church in charge of J. D. Hartzler and George Grundy, with interment in the Waldo Cemetery.

Samuel married Ida Ellen Yordy on 29 Nov 1905 in Flanagan, Livingston Co., IL. Ida (daughter of Jacob K. Yordy and Kathrine (Katie) B. King) was born on 13 Feb 1883 in Flanagan, Livingston Co., IL; died on 23 Jun 1947 in Bloomington, McLean Co., IL. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

SCHROCK - On the 1st of June, 1893, near Thurman, Colo., of consumption, Lizzie, wife of Dea. Joseph Schrock, aged 36 years, 4 months and 27 days. Her maiden name was Bachman. She was the mother of one child, which died in infancy. She had been ailing in health for a long time, but was always able to do her work until a week before her death, from which time she had to suffer great pain, but she bore it patiently. Buried on the 3d at the M.H. near Thurman where a very large concourse of people assembled. Services by Bishop Joseph Schlegel in German and also in English. Text, John 5:24, 25. She was much loved by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the A.M. denomination. She leaves a deeply bereaved husband to mourn her early death.

Birkey.- Phoebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zimmerman, was born at Princeton. Ill., Jan. 13, 1864 ; passed away Oct. 5, 1946 ; aged 82 y. 8 m. 22 d. On Dec. 30, 1883, she was married to Valentine Birkey, who predeceased her on May 13, 1935. For five years they lived on a farm near Hopedale, Ill., and in 1892 they moved to Champaign County. For the past three years she had made her home with her granddaughter, Mrs. Homer Cender, Goshen, Ind. In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until death. Surviving are 2 sons (Andrew, Fisher, Ill.; and John C., Dewey, Ill.), one daughter (Lena, of Goshen), 7 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, Ill., Oct. 6, with J. A. Heiser and Lester Mann in charge. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Schrock, Alice, daughter of Peter E. and Phebe (Smith) Bachman, was born near Tiskilwa, Ill., Jan. 10, 1897; died at the Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton, Ill., Mar. 6, 1970; aged 73 y. 1 m. 24 d. On Dec. 22, 1920, she was married to Jesse E. Schrock, who died Aug. 30, 1927. Surviving are one son (Allen J.), 2 daughters (Dorothy-Mrs. Wilmer J. Shank and Doris-Mrs. Allan Bachman), 14 grandchildren, 4 sisters (Tillie Bachman, Mrs. Rose Zehr, Mrs. Amanda Sears, and Esther Bachman), and 2 brothers (Edward and Clyde). She was preceded in death by one grandchild, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. She was a member of the Willow Springs Church, where funeral services were held Mar. 9, with Milo Kauffman officiating.

On Dec. 28, 1911, he was married to Fannie Birkey, who survives. Also surviving are one son (Harold), one daughter (Mrs. Helen deSimone), 2 grandsons, and one sister (Mrs. Lena Birky).
