Yeackley, -- Fannie, oldest of thirteen children of John and Magdalena (King) Yordy, was born in Tremont, Ill. April 5, 1863; exchanged her earthly home for one in glory on Oct. 31, 1955; aged 92 y. 6 m. 26 d. On Sept. 7, 1884, she was married to Joseph Yeackley. The following spring they moved to Milford, Nebr., on a farm where she lived for 62 years. Her husband passed away Jan. 18, 1940. Seven years later she, with her daughter Eva, moved into Milford, where she lived for eight years. Their home was blessed with 8 children. (Lizzie-Mrs. Ben Gascho, Phoebe-widow of Bishop J. E. Zimmerman, Fred, John, Emma-Mrs. Ed Roth, George, Eva, and Elsie-Mrs. Bert Stutzman, all of Milford). She lived to be grandmother to 32 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Surviving are all her children, and 3 sisters (Mrs. Emma Swartzendruber, Wellman, Iowa; Mrs. Bella Schrock, Albany, Oreg.; and Mrs. Elizabeth Erb, Colorado Springs, Colo.). In her youth she united with the Waldo congregation near Flanagan, Ill., and during her 70 years in the Milford community was a loyal member of the East Fairview Church. We, as a family, are grateful to God for having given us a mother with an active and alert mind, who spent many hours reading. She absorbed much from the past and present, yet kept her eyes in the direction of her eternal Home. Mother was interested in people as individuals and liked to converse with everyone. She never tired of living. Some of her last words were, "I think of my big family. Do the best you can when I'm gone, be faithful, have a clear title." The funeral services were held at the East Fairview Church. Ammon Miller used John 17: 24 as his text. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
“Thrift was necessary in colonial times, on the frontier, during the Depression of the 1930’s. For many it became a way of life. Eva Yeackley Reeb speaks of her mother, Fannie Yordy Yeackley (1863-1955), of Milford, Nebraska: She ingrained in her children that it is sinful to waste. She didn’t discard utensils with holes. Through her much reading she learned of mending rivets. They and her soldering iron lengthened the life of many a utensil. She used a strip of leather for a hinge, a piece of wood for a door latch, bits of cloth tied to the handle of a discarded fly swatter to make a number-one device for removing crumbs from a toaster, and a tin can which she heated in coals in the kitchen range to be able to remove the ends and make a good, sharp, still-being-used food chopper.”

Obit: Milford Review, Milford, NE, Thurs, Oct 4, 1934
David Yordy of Ashley, Michigan, brother of Simon Yordy and Mrs. Joe Yeackley of Milford, was attacked and gored by a bull when he went to the pasture to get the cows early Sunday morning. When he failed to return, his two sons, Charles and John, started a search for him and found him in the pasture. He was taken to a hospital. He died a half hour after he arrived at the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Yordy formerly lived on a farm near Milford.
David, son of John and Magdalene Yordy, was born in Bureau county, Illinois on January 16, 1875, died at the Clinton Memorial Hospital, St. John's, Michigan, at 8 o'clock a.m., September 30, 1934, aged 59 years, 8 months and 14 days.
On November 14, 1907, he was married to Sarah Stauffer at Milford, Nebraska. To this union were born four sons and one daughter, Orvin, Charles, Ada (wife of Leonard Litwiller, Hopedale, Illinois), John and Emerson. In 1931 they opened their home to a little girl, Grace, whom they later adopted.
As he is the first one to be taken from the home, he leaves his bereaved companion, the children, a son-in-law and two grandchildren, Arline and Phyllis. He also leaves three brothers and four sisters, Fannie Yeackley and Simon, Milford, Nebraska; John, Kewanee, Illinois; Emma Swartzendruber and Lizzie Erb, Wellman, Iowa; Bella Schrock, Albany, Oregon; and Peter of Texas; as well as other relatives and many friends.
At the age of sixteen he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined the Mennonite church, of which he has been a member through life. His desire was to live the Christian life and he went about it in a quiet way.

Zimmerman, was born at Washington, Ill., July 24, 1882; died at her home in Milford, Nebr., March 27, 1929; aged 46 y. 8 m. 3 d. At the age of two years she moved with her parents to Milford, Nebr. Several years later they moved to Thurman, Colo., and later to Lund, Kans., from which place they moved back to Milford, Nebr. On Jan. 8, 1899, she was united in marriage to Jos. E. Zimmerman. At the age of 16 she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining a faithful member. She was always found at her post of duty, ready to serve or give counsel and willing to make sacrifices. Since the organization of the Sisters' Sewing Circle in the Iowa-Nebraska Conference, she has served as president and has been president of the Home sewing circle since its beginning. On July 3, 1928, she went to Savannah, Mo., to be treated for cancer, which seemed to give relief at the time. On Dec. 26 she was confined to her bed and suffered intense pain. She endured her suffering with Christian fortitude, her only wish and prayer being that God might be glorified through it all and that she might be privileged to serve her Redeemer to the last. She is survived by her husband, 3 children (Milo, Alamora, Colo.; Myrtle Bender, Milford, Nebr.; and Stella, at home), 2 grandchildren (Maynard and Gloria Bender), step-father (John Plank, Harper, Kans.), 4 brothers and 4 sisters (Peter E., La Habra, Calif.; Simon, Milford, Nebr.; John, Kewanee, Ill.; David, Ashley, Mich.; Fannie Yeackley, Milford, Nebr.; Emma Swartzendruber, Wellman, Ia.; Bella Schrock, Albany, Oreg.; Lizzie Erb, Wellman, Ia.), besides many other relatives and friends. Daughter of Joseph and Bella (Yordy) Schrock, was born near Shickley, Nebr., July 23, 1907; died at Mennonite Village, Albany, Oreg., June 28, 1986; aged 78 y. Funeral services were in charge of Richard Headings and Robert Williams; interment in Fairview Mennonite Cemetery.
When she was 2 years old, the family moved to Albany, Ore., where she received her elementary education. At age 22, she became dissatisfied with housework in California. Later she was asked to be Matron at Hesston College in Kansas. She combined this with a full load of study. Then a request came for her to train as an x-ray technician for the La Junta (Colo.) Hospital. After graduating from Goshen College in 1942, she went to La Junta and became the first registered x-ray technician in the Mennonite constituency. She worked 5 years at La Junta. Her life after that was filled with many things: Three years with MCC in the Philippines, 12 years as x-ray tech at the new Lebanon hospital, Greece to 'mother' the PAX men after WWII, 5 more years at Lebanon hospital, a world tour, revisit to Greece and the Philippines, to Zaire to help Dr. Zook there, serve as hostess at the Guest House in Washington DC, attend the Mennonite World Conference in France in 1984. She was active in the Wheels on Wheels program until her death.
