Notes:
“After Andrew and Veronica married, they probably soon moved into the [Johannes] Sutter home, after the elder Sutters moved into the smaller house just across the garden. Their home was about eighteen feet long and sixteen feet wide. Its one room was divided into a kitchen and bedroom by a curtain. The hired man had to climb a ladder to his bed in the loft. Later an addition was built to the house for use as a kitchen in the summer. It could not be used during the winter because it was not built very warm and was floorless. The pole barn was eight feet high, sixteen feet wide, and eighteen feet long. In the wall in front of the horses was a flap door, which was opened at feeding time. The haystacks were just outside. Oats was kept in a rail pen nearby.”
Andrew and Veronica bought 80 acres of the Sutter land in 1882 for $50 an acre. In 1891 they sold the land for $95 an acre and moved to Fisher. He bought some land in the same section where daughter Mary and her husband had purchased land and built a house.

Schrock. - Albert E. Schrock was born in Tazewell Co., Ill., Jan. 13, 1886; died at his home near Fisher, Ill., Jan. 9, 1917; aged 30 y. 11 m. 27 d.
He united with the Amish Mennonite Church at the age of 17 years and remained faithful unto the end. He united in marriage with Josephine Yordy Dec. 18, 1907. To this union were born 2 sons, Elmer and Orval who with his loving wife, are left to mourn his early departure, also father and mother, 1 sister, an aged grandmother, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a very devoted Christian, living true to his convictions. He was elected superintendent of the Sunday school where he served faithfully until his health failed, when he was attacked with the dreaded disease, tuberculosis, of which he was a sufferer for four years. Much of this time he spent in reading good books and studying God,s Word. He bore his afflictions patiently and fought the disease hard, and died with a hemorrhage. He was a deep thinker, very conservative, choosing rather to be right than popular.
Even with his afflictions he always took an active part in church work, being in Sunday school two days before his death.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 11 at the East Bend A. M. Church by Bro. Samuel Gerber of Pekin, Ill., assisted by the home ministers. Buried at the Mennonite cemetery.
Fare thee well, our brother,
Yes, a last and sad farewell,
But in heaven, we'll try to meet thee,
And with thee forever dwell.

MORTON - Lloyd C. "Bud" Zobrist, 93, of Morton went peacefully from his earthly life to his eternal heavenly inheritance, surrounded by family, early Sunday morning, August 30, 2020, at his home.
He was born in Morton, Ill., on July 2, 1927, to Noah and Mary (Birky) Zobrist. He married Jeanine Pederson from Dent, Minn., on September 30, 1956, celebrating over 63 years of marriage.
Bud is survived by his wife, Jeanine; one son, Jon (Teressa) Zobrist; and four daughters, Jennie (Michael) Witzig, Amy (Mark) Davis and Ann (Todd) Bonham, all of Morton, and Ellen (Kyle) Wilmert of Gretna, Neb. He was blessed to have 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Noah Jr. (Dottie) of Gulf Shores, Ala.; four sisters, Doris Brecher, Fern Zimmerman and Ruth (Robert) Reinken, all of Morton, and Marilyn Donahue of Barrington, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Nancy Zobrist.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Raymond, Alpha (Shirley), Calvin and Willis; and five brothers-in-law, Robert Brecher, Robert Zimmerman, Jack Ault, Paul Grieder and Daniel Donahue.
Bud was an ambassador for his Savior, family and the village of Morton. He grew up surrounded by closeness of family and strengthened by his faith in his Lord. He graduated from Bradley University, served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and working with his father and brothers, co-founded N. Zobrist & Sons Construction, Inc. He served the village of Morton in many ways and was a forward-looking commercial and residential developer. He served two terms as a village of Morton trustee, was a charter member of Morton Rotary Club, was the 2014 Morton Pumpkin Festival Parade Marshall, and a member of Grace Church of Morton.
He was a man of the highest integrity, spiritual maturity, quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and fully devoted to his Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved his family deeply, and along with his wife, proudly attended every grandchild's birthday, concert or sporting event, without fail. Besides his wife and immediate family, his brothers and sisters, along with their spouses, were his best friends, and all enjoyed numerous gatherings which included intense Euchre games, family meals, outings, traveling, and spending time at this northern Wisconsin lake home (His Cabin). He will be missed by his Grace church family, daily visits to his "office" and the "coffee gang."
