    Birkey.- Andrew F., son of Valentine and Phoebe Birkey, was born at Walnut, Ill., Dec. 14, 1884; died at the Mercy Hospital, Urbana, Ill., of a heart attack, Oct. 2, 1968; aged 83 y. 9 m. 18 d. On Dec. 28, 1911, he was married to Fannie Birkey, who survives. Also surviving are one son (Harold), one daughter (Mrs. Helen deSimone), 2 grandsons, and one sister (Mrs. Lena Birky). He was a member of the East Bend Church, where funeral services were held Oct. 5, with J. Alton Horst and Irvin Nussbaum officiating

    Helen E. DeSimone (MORTON) The graveside service of Helen E. DeSimone, 82, of 2223 Veterans Road, Unit 5, Morton, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Bend Mennonite Cemetery in Fisher. The Rev. Jeff Ressler will officiate. There will be no visitation. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton is handling arrangements. She died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday (March 17, 2002) at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. Memorials may be made to WeCare, Inc. 622 West Jackson Street, Morton, IL 61550. She was born March 1, 1920, at Dewey, the daughter of Andrew and Fannie Birky Birkey. She married Vincent DeSimone on Nov. 25, 1945, in Rantoul. He died Aug. 19,2000. Surviving are one brother, Harold Birkey, Steilacome, Wash.; and two nephews, Steven (Jane) Birkey, Anchorage, Ala., and Paul (Debbie) Birkey, Taco-ma, Wash. She received her teaching certificate from Illinois State University in Normal. She was an elementary school teacher for 29 years teaching at Rantoul and Fisher school districts, retiring in 1970. Helen was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Rantoul, an associate member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brandon, Fla., and attended the Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton. She was also a life member of Champaign County Teachers Association and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
