Thurman R. King, 96, of Cheyenne died Dec. 11 at Cheyenne VA Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Vancouver, Wash., and moved to Cheyenne when he was 1-month-old.
Mr. King was a farmer and a jack of all trades. He was a carpenter, mechanic and built the first Taco Hut on Carey Avenue, which is now Taco John’s. He was the oldest living member of the American Legion Post 6 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also enjoyed fishing.
Thurman is survived by his wife, Doris King, whom he married Oct. 14, 1984, in Fort Collins, Colo.; son, Galen King; daughter, Gwendolyn Holloway; stepson, Michael Land; stepdaughter, Pamela Metzler (Greg); eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha King on Nov. 3, 1981; his parents, Theodore and Elizabeth King; a sister, Emma Lou Reidel; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Howle.
