    SCHROCK - On the 1st of June, 1893, near Thurman, Colo., of consumption, Lizzie, wife of Dea. Joseph Schrock, aged 36 years, 4 months and 27 days. Her maiden name was Bachman. She was the mother of one child, which died in infancy. She had been ailing in health for a long time, but was always able to do her work until a week before her death, from which time she had to suffer great pain, but she bore it patiently. Buried on the 3d at the M.H. near Thurman where a very large concourse of people assembled. Services by Bishop Joseph Schlegel in German and also in English. Text, John 5:24, 25. She was much loved by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the A.M. denomination. She leaves a deeply bereaved husband to mourn her early death.

    Schrock, Alice, daughter of Peter E. and Phebe (Smith) Bachman, was born near Tiskilwa, Ill., Jan. 10, 1897; died at the Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton, Ill., Mar. 6, 1970; aged 73 y. 1 m. 24 d. On Dec. 22, 1920, she was married to Jesse E. Schrock, who died Aug. 30, 1927. Surviving are one son (Allen J.), 2 daughters (Dorothy-Mrs. Wilmer J. Shank and Doris-Mrs. Allan Bachman), 14 grandchildren, 4 sisters (Tillie Bachman, Mrs. Rose Zehr, Mrs. Amanda Sears, and Esther Bachman), and 2 brothers (Edward and Clyde). She was preceded in death by one grandchild, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. She was a member of the Willow Springs Church, where funeral services were held Mar. 9, with Milo Kauffman officiating.

    Allen Jesse Schrock, 95, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at his home. He was born October 14, 1923, in Tiskilwa, Illinois. Allen served in the US Army and was stationed in France from 1943-1947. While there he became a part of The Conqueror’s Gospel Quartet, a group that continued to sing together for many years.

    Allen married Doris Reynolds on June 22, 1950. Following Allen’s graduation from the University of North Carolina in 1952 he began a career in education, teaching at West Goshen Elementary School, John Marshall Elementary School, and serving as the principal of both Greene Township and North Liberty Elementary Schools. As long time members of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, Allen and Doris helped to establish Waterford Mennonite Church in Goshen, IN and Community Mennonite Church in South Bend, IN.

    Early in their retirement years Allen and Doris enjoyed a year serving international students, working with the Mennonite Central Committee near Paris, France. Allen and Doris relocated from the Goshen area, where they had been long time residents, to Scottsburg in 2008 to live near their youngest daughter. Allen loved traveling, meeting distant relatives, gardening, collecting unusual rocks and creating stone walls. One of his greatest joys was his family, by whom he will be greatly missed and most fondly remembered.

    Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Alice Schrock; a sister, Dorothy Shank; a son, Joseph Allen; an infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Schrock and infant great-granddaughter, Paisley Noelle Ringer. Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, Doris; one sister, Doris Bachman; sons, David Schrock and Paul Schrock (Sally); daughters, Ruth Chupp (Greg) and Naomi Henderson (William); daughter-in-law, Ruth Hochstetler (Kevin); nineteen grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

    NORMAL - Ruth Slagell, 94 of Normal passed away November 16, 2020 at Carle Bromenn in Normal.
    There will be a private service for Ruth. Interment will be in Waldo Township Cemetery near Flanagan. There will be a celebration of her life at a later date. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.

    Ruth was born April 24, 1926 in Flanagan, the daughter of Milo and Rose (Bachman) Zehr. She married Robert Slagell, who preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Edward; sisters: Fern Welsh, Eileen Lueck and brother Paul Zehr; sisters-in-law: Myrna Park, and Betty Slagell; brothers-in-law: Roger Slagell and Delmar Slagell. She is survived by a son Greg Slagell of Gridley; sister-in-law, Wilma Zehr and many nieces and nephews.

    She farmed with her husband and was an employee of the former Pontiac National Bank for 30 years. She had many hobbies and interests. She loved her family and many friends. She did her best to live out her faith. She will be missed by many.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie View Mennonite Church in Flanagan.
