James L. Schrock, 82, of Aurora, CO passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 3, 2018.
He was born at home in rural Oakville, IA on December 29, 1935 to Noah and Hattie (Lanz) Schrock.
Survivors include one brother, Edward of Mediapolis, IA; six sisters, Ada Banwart of Mediapolis, IA, Lois Wiegand, Dorothy Schrock and Janet Beik of Burlington, IA, Alma Langland of Ottumwa, IA, and Eleanor Knobloch of Tremont, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Robert, and a sister Anna. A bachelor all his life, he took great interest in the lives of his many nieces and nephews and their children.
When he was three years old, he got his right hand caught in a pulley. One doctor suggested amputation; however, his father took him to a surgeon in Burlington who was able to salvage the hand even though it remained somewhat crippled. That did not prevent Jim from participating in sports at Huron High School.
After graduating from high school in 1954, he spent two years in the Army and later graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
He worked at various jobs in Los Angeles, CA and Chicago, IL. He moved to Aurora, CO in 1971 and was a very successful Realtor for Moore Real Estate and eventually for ReMax Alliance. He was still a Realtor at the time of his death and had no plans to retire.
Family and friends meant a lot to Jim. He faithfully stayed in touch with old friends. He loved reunions with his siblings or classmates each year when he visited his hometown in Iowa. He also loved sports, reading, traveling, eating a good steak, playing board games and taking naps.
Jim attended the Apostolic Christian Church of Aurora, CO.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, IA. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington, IA. There will be a memorial service at a later date in Aurora, CO. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
