EUREKA - Charles M. Schrock, 93, of Eureka, formerly of Washington, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at 12:45 p.m. at Advocate Eureka Hospital.
He was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Deer Creek, Ill., to Charles Edward and Allie Schunemann Schrock.
On June 9, 1946, he married Myrtle Eileen Marshall in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2009, in Eureka.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters. Charles is survived by his daughter, Peggy Schrock of Almo, Ky., and his son, Charles "Bud" (Kathy) Schrock of Wheaton, Ill.
He also is survived by two grandsons, Jason and Kyle Schrock of Wheaton; two sisters, Iona (Carl) Schaidle of Metamora and Bernadine (Don) Anderson of Roscoe; and one brother, Vernon (Donna) Schrock of Byron.
Charles served his country during World War II as an Army combat engineer.
He was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria for seven years. He later farmed for 18 years in northern Illinois. He retired from Ragan Auto Supply in Sunnyland after 16 years of employment.
He was a well-known golfer and bowler in the East Peoria and Washington areas and a longtime member at Hillcrest Golf Course in Washington.
He loved painting and was a talented artist. Many of his paintings can be found in the halls at Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka.
He was a member at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011. The Rev. John N. Bates will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington will be handling arrangements.
