Notes - “Peter was born on April 14, 1829, a son of David and Elizabeth (Miller) Schrock. Peter could well have been born on the same farm he had purchased from his father in 1853. Before his parents acquired the farm on July 1, 1842 it was a part of the estate of Christian Miller, of which Elizabeth was the only surviving child. We are not certain of the complete list of Peter's siblings, but we do know of six. A brother, named Benjamin, who moved to Johnson County, Iowa, was a minister there and kept up an active correspondence with Peter. Another brother, Christian, also settled in Iowa, along with three sisters, Lydia, wife of Moses P. Miller; Magdalena, wife of Benedict Lehman and later of Isaac Eash; and Veronica, wife of Bishop Abner Yoder. A brother, Moses, was the one who had shared the home farm with Peter. He also sold his farm shortly after Peter did and moved to Maryland where his letters were sometimes postmarked Gransville and sometimes Accident.
There was a brother Daniel, likely the Daniel Schrock whose farm adjoined Peter's at Aurora, a Michael Schrock who operated a store in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and who had several sons that served in the Civil War seems also to have been a brother. He was probably not Amish. “
