Notes - Originally opposed Jacob Ammann in the division of 1693, by 1700 was a follower of Ammann. A significant player in the 1693 Amish schism. His role as ancestor of the subsequent Guths listed in our genealogy is based more on circumstantial evidence than on documentation, but his name, geographic location, and religious affiliation make at least some kind of relationship to them highly likely. More information in IMH March 1993, p.8.
"A Heinrich is owner of a fenced-in farm (Hofraith) within the community of Mehlingen in the Palatinate in 1725. At about the same time two Mennonite brothers, Jakob and Johannes Guth, also lived on the Branchweilerhof near Neustadt. Probably all three Guths were sons or grandsons of two brothers, Jakob and Johannes Guth from Finsterhuelen near Zofingen in the Aargau in Switzerland.
"These latter two brothers lived as Anabaptist refugees in what was then the Kraichgau region of the Electorate of the Palatinate and are mentioned in several letters concerning the Amish Division begun in 1693." [1]
