King, -- Anna, daughter of Peter and Barbara (Neuhauser) Smith, was born near Congerville, Ill., Aug. 4, 1863; passed away at the Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kans., Nov. 25, 1949; aged 86 y. 3 m. 21 d. In 1885 she was married to Samuel B. King and moved from Illinois to Kansas, where they found their home near Larned. Ten years later they located on a farm near Hesston, which was their home until the time of her husband's death in 1942, after which she lived with her daughter (Mrs. Ephraim Risser). Theirs was a happy home, where many relatives and friends found hospitality. At the age of fifteen she was converted and was a sincere and faithful member of the Mennonite Church from her youth. After moving to Hesston, however, she learned a deeper love for God and His Word and for the souls of mankind. She was always ready to testify to the deep peace and assurance of salvation which she enjoyed and which she cherished for others. A faithful attendant at all church services, she served as Sunday-school teacher at the Pennsylvania Church for more than forty years. She maintained a keen interest in Christian missions and daily interceded in this behalf. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her eldest son (Ezra). Surviving are 8 children (Emma Risser, Hesston, Kans.; Frank, Chicago, Ill.; Elmer, Eureka, Ill.; Grace Shellenberger, Wichita, Kans.; Alvin, Hesston, Kans.; Samuel, Dhamtari, C.P., India; Chauncey, River Falls, Wis.; and Bessie Yoder, Kalona, Iowa), 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. J. P. Oyler, St. Johns, Mich.), and a brother (C. H. Smith, Eureka, Ill.). Funeral services were conducted at the home by O. O. Hershberger and at the Pennsylvania Church Nov. 27. Interment was made in the Pennsylvania Cemetery.
Lived in Hesston, KS. [7]
