Baptized Feb. 28, 1701 Parish register St. Mary's church, Burlington,West Jersey along with Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, & Hannah by Mr. JohnTalbot. This was to protect their inheritance rights as the Anglican church became the only approved religion when NJ became a Royal Colony.
He worked as a surveyor in Hopewell.
He signed a will on Nov 2, 1763 in Hopewell Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ.The will reads:
"1763, Nov. 2, Smith, Andrew, of Hopewell Twsp., Hunterdon Co., yoeman; will of Eldest son Andrew 5 pounds. son Jonathan 5 pounds. Son George,5 pounds Daughter Ann Titus, 5 pounds. Grandson, Jonathan Smith, land whereon his father Charles lived, of 6 acres, when he is 21; but if hedie, then my granddaughter, Rachel North shall have said land. Witness -Felix Lott, John Corwine, Thomas Wilson."
This estate was probated on April 24, 1767 in Hopewell. His home was the Large stone house on the land where the Hunt burying ground is located - off the Harbourton-Woodsville Rd. and Poor Farm Rd. building in 1711.
Sarah Stout Smith was one of the charter members of the Hopewell Baptist church which first convened on April 23, 1715 at the house of her brother Joseph Stout in Hopewell.
