FISHER - Clarence L. Eichelberger, 89, Fisher, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2009) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Gibson City. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating. Burial will be in the East Bend Memorial Gardens, Fisher. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church and for one hour before the service. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher.
Clarence was born July 1, 1919, a son of Henry and Susanna Bechler Eichelberger. He married Clara Heiser on June 30, 1944. She died Oct. 22, 1972. He later married Mildred Zehr Gross on Aug. 31, 1974. She died Nov. 21, 1979. Surviving are a son, Steven A. (Connie) Eichelberger, Dewey; two stepsons, Larry (Karen) Gross, Dewey, and Roger (Sherrie) Gross, Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Bernice (Wayne) Sutter, Morton; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ted; two sisters; and five brothers.
Clarence and his family moved to the Fisher area from Tazewell County in 1962. Clarence was a grain and livestock farmer until his retirement in 1985. Before becoming a member of the East Bend Mennonite Church, Clarence was a member of the Midway Mennonite Church in Pekin and a member of the Dewey Mennonite Church. He served many years as a Sunday school teacher and other offices as asked to serve. He enjoyed traveling and serving in "Voluntary Service" projects through the church. His life centered around his family, his church family and finding enjoyment in his work.
