FOOSLAND — Verena F. Birkey, 98, of Foosland died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 10, 2018) at Gibson Area Hospital Annex, Gibson City.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating. Burial will be in East Bend Memorial Gardens, Fisher. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, both at the church.
Mrs. Birkey was born Jan. 24, 1920, a daughter of Manuel and Barbara Good Heiser. She married Leslie V. Birkey on Jan. 18, 1951, in Fisher. He died Jan. 15, 2011.
Surviving is a son, Duane (Muriel) Birkey of Foosland; two granddaughters, Alicia (Richard) Rensberger of Elkhart, Ind., and Elaine (Daniel) Mabry of Foosland; and three great-grandsons, Hunter and River Mabry and Chase Rensberger.
She was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and two infant brothers.
Mrs. Birkey cleaned houses for many people over the years. She enjoyed gardening, canning and quilting. She was a member of East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher.
