- Notes for Thomas Smith:
Thomas was involved in a court case about Traverse Jury Member in Aug. 1702 in Burlington, West Jersey. He was involved in a court case about Dom. Reg. versus Eldad Davis in March 1705 in Burlington, West Jersey. He and his brother Andrew gave evidence for Our Lady the Queen.
Fled with John Parke & Bartholomew Anderson in May of 1735 from Hopewell Co. NJ to Frederick Co. (Hampshire Co. ) VA
Thomas owned the farms of William D. Hill and J. Guild Hunt, and also the part of the Dr. Macauley farm lying west of the road, the tract being purchased by Thomas Smith, son of Andrew Smith, Feb. 25, 1698.
He came to NC about 1745 and was one of the settlers at the Jersey Settlement in the Yadkin River Valley in Bladen/Anson/Rowan Co., NC (now Lexington, Davidson Co., NC). He came with Jonathan Hunt, Robert Heaton and John Titus. On Sept. 29, 1748 he was in New Bern, NC then the capitol of NC, petitioning the NC Assembly to form Anson Co. He and the others traveled over 100 miles in order to reach the Bladen Co. house. The next day, Sept. 30, 1748 he was appointed Justice of the Peace for Bladen Co.
