This Samuel Bird may be a son of a James Bird. Parentage is not proven.
The Complete Book of Emigrants 1700-1750, by Peter Wilson Coldham 929.3 A173 CoLb "A list of emigrants from surviving records in English Archives". p. 220. Sept. 17, 1718 Samuel BIRD of St. Martin's, Worchester, Labourer, aged 19, bound to JOHN TAYLOR to serve 5 years in VA. (CLRO:ATSM/57) (Corporation of London Record Office)

At some point, Samuel Bird's indenture was sold from John Taylor, or he was somehow re-indentured, to Honorias Powell, the son of Benjamin Powell and wife, Joyce Riddle. The earliest known location of Samuel Bird appears to be near Robinson's & Rapidan River, areas which are currently in Culpeper Co. He appears on the Orange Co. VA Tax List by David Phillips in 1737. The Germanna History Notes (Culpeper genweb) p. 070 says, "this precinct was on the south side of Robinson River, on both sides White Oak Run, perhaps east where Robinson meets the Rapidan." In 1736, David Phillips patented a tract, 200 acres in the fork of the Rappidanne River. Beginning on a branch of Beautiful run, corner to Nicholas Christopher.

It's probable that Samuel Bird was dec'd shortly after 1750, and his children may have been indentured as well. However, he was never ordered to clear the roads, possibly because it was before roads were cleared in his area. Samuel Bird is documented in Orange Co. records in 1736, 1737, 1745, 1746, 1748, 1749, and Louisa Co. in 1749. Byrd project No. B-9. AMHaplogroup R1b. This Samuel Bird may be a son of a James Bird. Parentage is not proven.

Samuel Bird's indenture was likely sold from John Taylor, or he re-indentured, to Honorias Powell. He most likely had completed his indenture before 1734 (when he signs as a witness to Jonathan Clark's will, in K&Q Co.), but was indented by 1737 when living near the Powell's plantation on the Rapidan.
