FLANAGAN - Orval E. Yordy, 86, of Flanagan died at 4:45 a.m. on Monday (March 13, 2000) at OSF Saint James Hospital, Pontiac.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Waldo Mennonite Church, rural Flanagan, the Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Waldo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan, and for one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Camp Menno Haven, Tiskilwa, the Boy Scouts of America, or a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Dec. 24, 1913, in Flanagan, the son of Noah Chris and Mary Ringenberg Yordy. He married Ida Mae Hulbert on July 13, 1941, in Montgomery, Mo. She died June 10, 1967. He then married Ella Becker Stalter in July of 1969. She died Jan. 15, 1994.
He is survived by one son, Elton "Bud" (Sharon) Yordy, Flanagan; one daughter, Donna J. Grove, Flanagan; one stepson, Ronald (Sharon) Stalter, Minonk; two sisters, Dorothy Schneider and Beulah Roeschley, both of Flanagan; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; three stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Vernon Yordy; and one sister, Inez Schrock.
Orval was a member of the Waldo Mennonite Church where he participated in many church activities. He served as a Boy Scout Leader in the W.D. Boyce Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and helped establish a Wilderness Scout Camp in Minnesota. He was also an active member in the Flanagan Lions Club. He was the owner and founder of Yordy's True Value Hardware Store in Flanagan from 1941 until his retirement.
