      MORTON — Harold Chris Yordy, 86, of Morton, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Monday (June 8, 2015) at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
      He was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Morton, to Clarence and Esther Studer Yordy. He married Phyllis Bauman on Dec. 26, 1948, in Morton.
      Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Yordy, Morton; one daughter, Dianne Weer, Lexington; one son, Mike (Jenny) Yordy, Morton; six grandchildren, Julie (George) Maglares, Elgin; Scott (fiancee, Lory Betancourt) Weer, Streamwood; Natalie Weer, East Peoria; Michael (Holly) Yordy II and Jason (Trisha) Yordy, both of Morton; and Sara (Travis) Cowley, Tremont; four great-grandchildren, Sam Maglares, Maria Maglares, Michael “Tripp” Yordy III and Ella Grayson; one brother, Jim (Willa Sue) Yordy, Morton; and one sister, Marilyn (Roger) Laible, Ocala, Fla.
      He graduated from Morton High School, where he achieved track and football honors, including football captain.
      Harold was a farmer and turkey producer his entire life in Morton and stayed active on the family farm until just recently. He was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau and was a 4-H leader, where he was coach of the 4-H fast pitch softball team that won the state title in 1972.
      He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Morton, where he served in multiple capacities for many years. He was also involved as a volunteer with the Illinois Mennonite Relief Sale, Camp Menno Haven in Tiskilwa and the Heart of Illinois Fair.
      As a well-respected leader, he served on the Peoria Rescue Ministries board and worked for the Mennonite Disaster Service, where he volunteered in disaster areas. Harold helped many people in need throughout his life.
      He also served on the founding board of the Youth Farm in Peoria and was an active contributor in its beginning.
      In Fort Myers Beach, Fla., he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteered as a baseball umpire.
      His family was very important to him. He was a kind, loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His positive attitude had a great impact upon his family and others he came in contact with.
      Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Mennonite Church in Morton. Further visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at First Mennonite Church in Morton, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Aaron Yoder officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Tremont.
      Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Morton, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church, Morton, or Peoria Rescue Ministries.
