MANSON - Don Sutter, 81, of Manson, died May 18, 2012 at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held Monday May 21, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Manson Mennonite Church with the Rev. Aaron Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie, two daughters Kathy (Robert) Walker and Angie (Scott) Irvin, both of Riceville and son Doug (Patty) Sutter of Clive, sister Helen Sutter of Manson, one grandchild Heather Legg, of Marble Rock, one great-grandson, Andrew Heideman of Marble Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Lena (Zehr) Sutter and three precious great-grandchildren, Abigail, Jacob and Jesselyn, that perished in a house fire in April, 2008.

Don was born August 20, 1930 in Manson, Iowa. He graduated from Manson High School in 1948 and attended Manson Mennonite Church where he served in various capacities, the latest as Volunteer Church Advocate. He worked in grocery stores during his high school years and for The Dalton Press beginning in 1948, where he was later promoted to general manager. He served in 1-W Alternative Service from 1952 to 1954 at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines. It was there that he met his wife, Bonnie, who was taking nurses training. They were united in marriage at the Manson Mennonite Church April 8, 1955.

Don had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing jokes on and with his friends, cousins, and family. His magic and card tricks were enjoyed by his family and friends. He liked entering contests and was delighted to win various prizes. Don enjoyed traveling with Bonnie and his family, and always looked forward to the next trip. Don was a big fan of the Twins and Cubs, and was a dedicated follower of college and professional sports. Don especially took pleasure in family gatherings, and loved to celebrate the occasion with fireworks.

Don and his wife, Bonnie, were blessed to bring in three or four Southern Gospel Concerts a year featuring top artists, such as The Florida Boys, The Nelons, The Perrys and The Dixie Melody Boys. He enjoyed low bass singing as a youngster. He looks forward to being reunited with his Mom and Dad, and three great-grandchildren in Heaven. [2]
