    • Obit:
      HOPEDALE - Gertrude K. Birky, 89, of Hopedale died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at Hopedale Nursing Home. 
      Her graveside funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mennonite Cemetery, Hopedale, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Hopedale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Fender will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Mortuary in Hopedale. 
      Memorials may be made to Hopedale United Methodist Church. 
      She was born Dec. 28, 1912, at Hopedale, a daughter of Jonas J. and Ida N. Miller Nafziger. She married John G. Birky on Nov. 1, 1933, at Valparaiso, Ind. He died Sept. 19, 1985. 
      Survivors include one son, John E. (Susan) Birky, Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Duane (Wanda) Nafziger, Fort Myers, Fla.; and three sisters, Delora (Russell) Wharrie, Bloomington; Marzella (Mahlon) Rasmusson, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Donna (Orville) Miller, Sun City, Ariz. 
      Also surviving are two grandchildren, J. Brian Birky, Alexandria, Va.; and Kathy (Aldo) Lavorini, Mahwah, N.J. 
      Her husband, one brother and one sister preceded her in death. 
      She was employed by State Farm Insurance Co. in Bloomington for several years. She was a member of the Hopedale United Methodist Church and a member of Order of Eastern Star, Hopedale.
