      Alford James West was born July 7, 1922 in Jefferson TWP, Maries County, Missouri, USA near Lanes Prairie and grew up on the family farm with his parents and siblings. After the beginning of World War II he enlisted in the U S Army on November 18, 1942 at Jefferson Barracks in Saint Louis, Missouri.

      Alford was assigned to the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, they were known as the Texas T-Patchers Division. He was trained as a BAR Gunner in the United States and received more advanced training and was introduced into combat in North Africa. From there the T-Patchers became part of "Operation Avalanche", the battle for the first Allied beachhead on the European mainland, when they landed on the beaches at Salerno, Italy on September 9, 1943 and were to proceed on to Rome.

      PFC Alford James West was killed in action on December 15, 1943 during the assault on the small hillside town of San Pietro Infine, Italy. [2]
