11083 | Shortly before the 1830 census, JP arrived in MO from Grant Co., KY. James and wife Susannah were first cousins. 1861 - Served in Capt. John McFall’s Co. I, of the 26th Infantry Regiment of MO Volunteers, as musician (drummer) in Civil War at the age of 57. He was enlisted by Lieut. Wiley C. Wiseman at Union on the 21st day of Sept. 1861, to serve 3 years. James was mustered into service on 26 Dec 1861, at Pacific, MO, and was present for the months of Jan and Feb, 1862. Mar and Apr was absent for sick furlough (lame right hand and rheumatism of leg). Discharged for disability by order of Gen. Halleck (sciatica and contracted tendon of middle finger of right hand, declared the Surgeon of the 26th MO. Vol.) April 17th, 1862 on board steamer City of Alton, a Private. 1873, 21 Dec. - Applied in person for military pension (Pension File No. 186,199) while living in Luther, MO. He claimed to be totally disabled because of exposure at Birds Point, MO about Feb 1862 when he was exposed to a heavy rain all day while doing service. About a week later he was sent to a hospital in Charleston, MO. for about 14 days, then sent to Cairo, IL, where he was examined and discharged. James’ signature is on the Declaration. 1874, 8 Aug - George E. Armistead testified he lived 4 miles from JP and knew him 8-10 years. 1876 June and 1873 Aug - P.N.Butler testified he was a physician in Franklin Co. for 27 years and knew JP and family for 30 years. No date - Joseph Walton and Eli Park of Spring Bluff were witnesses to a document. Their marks were attested by F.M. and H.T. Weirich. 1880 census lists James in Boone Twp. with daughter James P. Childers - father Cleresa Jane Childers Blackwell - head of household JWHT (Tom) Blackwell, age 18, single 1886, 6 Aug - Elizabeth applied for James’ pension while living in Beaufort, MO. 1886, 27 Nov - William (39) and Joseph (35) Conway of Spring Bluff attest they knew JP for 24 years. Weirich has moved back on his farm. 16 Mar 1888 Mr. F Weirich Sr and son Otto are very sick at this writing with the prevailing disease, pneumonia. ———————————— Martin Ernst Wilhelm Heinrich Friedrich Weirich "Pioneer Citizen Passes Jan. 7 Reaches Age Of 84 Years -- Served County 40 Years As Deputy Sheriff Frederick M. Weirich, pioneer and well known citizen of the county, died January 7, 1942, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and one day. Death occurred at the home of his son, Julius, on Leslie Route 2, where he made his home during his last illness. He was born March 6, 1857 in Mechlenberg, Germany, and came to America with his parents, Frederick and Louise Schroeder Weirich, at the age of two year [sic] and settled on a farm north of Union. It was here that he attended school and spent his boyhood. At the age of nineteen, he moved with his parents to the farm on Leslie, Route 2. On April 18, 1883 he was united in marriage with Miss Caroline Park of near Champion City. To this union thirteen children were born, of whom the following survive: Oscar of Washington; Herman of Leslie; Julius of Leslie; Clarence of Washington; Randolph of Leslie; Wilbert of Leslie; Clifford of Gray Summit; Clyde of Washington; and Mrs. Lenora McSparren of Ottumwa, Iowa. Four sisters also survive: Mrs. Caroline Uthman, Gerald; Mrs. Ida Souders, Beverly Hills, Calif.; and Mrs. Emma Calwell of Sacramento, Calif., one brother Otto of Topeka, Kan., also thirty-two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Weirich was a man who manifested a great interest in public affairs and was always interested in the welfare of his neighbors, ready to assist anyone in need to the limit of his ability. As an auctioneer his services were in demand and many sales far and near did he serve in that capacity during his life. For forty years he served Franklin County as deputy sheriff and during the same time served Boone township as constable and his serv-..."
