Vietta Birkey, 92, of Goshen, died at noon on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born in Milford, Nebraska, on March 1, 1916 to Jake and Phoebe (Rediger) Zimmerman. She married Clarence E. Birkey on March 4, 1936 in Manson, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1995.
A homemaker and Goshen resident since 1965, Mrs. Birkey was a 1934 graduate of Milford High School in Nebraska, and a member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald A. (Lorraine) Birkey of Larkspur, Colorado, and Roger J. Birkey of Pleasanton, California; two daughters, Barbara a. Birkey of Elkhart and Carol J. (David) Pratt of Bristol; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jake Zimmerman of Milford, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters; and four brothers.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service
A family service will be held in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Jubilee Fund at College Mennonite Church.
