Horsch.- Henry L., son of Henry and Katie (Good) Horsch, was born at Gilmore City, Iowa, Feb. 7, 1903; died at Gibson City, Ill., of cancer, June 20, 1969; aged 66 y. 4 m. 13 d. On Feb. 2, 1927, he was married to Esther Litwiller, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children (Richard, Galen, James, and LuEtta-Mrs. Weldon Friesen), 9 grandchildren, one brother (Ervin), and 5 sisters (Mrs. Elsie Birkey, Mrs. Clara Zehr, Mrs. Louise Augsburger, Mrs. Lavina Schertz, and Mrs. Katie Kennell). He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter. He was a member of the East Bend Church, where funeral services were held June 22, with Irvin Nussbaum officiating, assisted by J. A. Heiser.

Henry married Esther Litwiller on 2 Feb 1927 in Hopedale, Tazewell Co., IL. Esther was born on 27 Nov 1905 in Delavan, Tazewell Co., IL. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Horsch.--Henry Horsch was born in Bavaria, Germany, March 9, 1868; died at his home in Fisher, Ill., after suffering a heart attack, Aug. 28, 1946; aged 78 y. 5 m. 19 d. At the age of about twenty-three he came to America and settled at Hopedale, Ill., where on Jan. 24, 1897, he was united in marriage to Katie Good, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Joseph and Henry, both of Foosland, Ill.; and Ervin, Minier, Ill.), 5 daughters (Mrs. Louise Augsperger and Mrs. Lavina Schertz, both of Fisher; Mrs. Arthur Kennell, Roanoke, Ill.; and Mrs. Clarence Zehr and Mrs. Dorence Birkey, both of Manson, Iowa), 28 grandchildren, on great-grandchild, and a large number of other relatives and friends. One daughter (Mrs. Raymond Yordy) and one son preceded him in death. As a young man he gave his life to the Lord and united with the Mennonite Church, continuing faithful until death. Funeral services were held Aug. 31 at the East Bend Church, Fisher, in charge of J. A. Heiser and Harold Zehr. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

It is believed that Henry came to the U.S as a lad after living in Bayern, Germany. After marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Gilmore City, IA, until 1905 when they moved to Creighton, MO, in Cass Co. In 1915 the family moved to Fisher, IL, to a farm owned by Katherine’s brother-in-law, Chris Birkey of Hopedale, IL. In 1940 they retired and moved to Fisher where they lived with their daughter, Louise.

Good - Died, Feb. 10, 1909, near Hopedale, Ill., Bro. Joseph Good, aged 78 y. He leaves to mourn his death his aged wife, who has shared the joys and sorrows for 51 years, two sons, six daughters, one brother and one sister, but they mourn not as those who have no hope. Bro. Good was an earnest and humble Christian. For him to live was Christ, and to die was gain. He suffered much pain during his sickness, but we believe that now he is being comforted. Buried Feb. 13. Services by Jos. Egli, John C. Birky and Daniel Nafizger.

Served as first janitor of Hopedale Mennonite Church for about twenty years: 1876-1896. The first six years he received $30 a year for his services.

Good. - Katharine, daughter of Jacob and Magdalena Stalter, was born in Germany Jan. 9, 1832; died at the home of her daughter in Hopedale, Ill., Oct. 15, 1919 ; aged 87 y. 9 m. 6 d. At the age of 14 she united with the A. M. Church, of which she was a faithful member until death. In the year of 1854 she sailed for America. She was united in marriage to Joseph Good in 1856. Her husband died Feb. 10, 1909. To this union were born 10 children. One son and 1 daughter died in infancy. She leaves 2 sons and 6 daughters, (Joseph, Dan, Lizzie Birkey, Phoebe Birkey, Barbara Bachman, Sarah Beller, Katie Horsch, and Mary Birkey); also 40 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral services at the home by Bro. J. C. Birkey and the church by Jonas Litwiller and J. C. Birkey.

Grandmother's place in the home is vacant,
