    The funeral of Edna Ropp Springer, 92, of Meadows Nursing Home, Chenoa, formerly of rural Bloomington and the Lake Bloomington area, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, the Rev. Steve Estes officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. The family will receive friends at the time of the service. Mrs. Springer died at 11:40 a.m. Friday 2-7-1997 at Meadows Mennonite Home, Chenoa.
    Survivors include her husband, Howard B. Springer; a son, James B. Springer, Salem, Ohio; and a daughter, Jane Knecht, Carmel, Ind. Also surviving is a grandson, Mark Springer. Mrs. Springer was born 1-25-1905 in Gibson City, the daughter of Serenus and Barbara Goldsmith Ropp. She married Howard B. Springer 5-5-1941 in Lincoln. Preceding her in death were a stepson, John Springer; a brother, Lawrence Ropp; and a sister, Irene Johnson. Mrs. Springer was a member of the Mennonite Church of Normal. She attended Illinois State University and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was a retired clerk from Montgomery Ward and before that, a teacher in Gibson City.

    "On the 24th of May, 1895, near Pekin, Tazewell Co., Ill., of cancer, Bro. Jacob Ropp, aged 78 y., 17 d. He leaves his wife and 9 children, 45 grand-children and many friends to mourn their loss. He was buried on the 26th at the Union M. H. at Elmgrove. Funeral services by Joseph Buercky of Tiskilwa, and Isaac Miller of Tremont, Ill. Benj. Berkey of Groveland, and John Schmitt, in German, and by Va. Strubhar of Washington, in English, from Phil. 1:21. The funeral was one of the largest that ever occurred in this part of the country. Bro. Ropp died in peace with God and man. - J. Buercky."
