  1. 1.  Rodney Deer was born on 22 Sep 1954 in Fisher, Champaign Co., IL (son of Kenneth Deer and Betty Reber); died on 3 Nov 2017 in Urbana, Champaign Co., IL.

    Notes:

    Rodney Gene Deer, 63, born and raised in Fisher, passed away peacefully Friday (Nov. 3, 2017), surrounded by his family at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

    He was born Sept. 22, 1954, at Gibson Hospital, the son of Kenneth and Betty (Reber) Deer, both deceased.

    He is survived by the love of his life and wife, Cathy (Ball) Deer, Fisher; his daughter, Alicia (Deer) Zeone, Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Austin Deer, Hoboken, N.J., and Alex Deer, Fisher; his son-in-law, Bryon Zeone; daughter-in-law, Joell (Bajoras) Deer; two grandchildren, Avery and Brennan Zeone; two brothers, Terry (Janet) Deer, Dewey, and Rick (Pam) Deer, Foosland; three sisters, Brenda (Jack) Spitz, Fisher; Susie (Dave) Bright, Foosland; and Wendy Landrum, Imperial Beach, Calif.

    Rodney enjoyed life to the max; he maybe even celebrated too much. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports, regardless of the circumstances. Dad was famously known for proudly rocking his neon-orange windbreaker pullover, sipping on a 24-ounce Bud Light or Big Slam Mountain Dew and enjoying a pack of Camel cigarettes.

    Dad dedicated 16 years to the Fisher Little League and thoroughly enjoyed coaching, teaching and ensuring kids had the best baseball and softball community experience possible. He loved to help others and was willing to drop anything he was doing for those in need, both close friends and complete strangers.
    His other hobbies included golfing, fishing, and excessively mowing the lawn on his Cub Cadet. Dad loved sports; he thoroughly relished comparing every Chicago Bears team to the 1985 Bears Super Bowl champions. He was so proud of the 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series victory.

    The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those who were positively affected by Dad make a small donation in his honor to Fisher Little League. We also welcome friends and family to celebrate Dad’s life and join us for a memorial service from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher. The family asks visitors to bring a favorite memory/story to share. Lamb Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.}
