    RANTOUL – Pete L. Good, 58, of Rantoul left his earthly life, surrounded by family, Friday morning (Oct. 21, 2016) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
    He was born Feb. 4, 1958, in Champaign, a son of Lloyd and Verda (Hershberger) Good. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Eureka.

    He married Dawn Meece on Sept. 30, 1978, in Fisher. She survives, along with their children, Leah (Brad) Hunsberger of Goshen, Ind., Anna (Ben Larson) Good of Champaign, Jacob
    (Gabriela Vallejos) Good of Rantoul and Jeremy Good of Rantoul; and a grandson, Ethan. Also surviving are brothers, Nicholas (Dr. Judith Kooser) Good of Topeka, Kan., and Jeff (Kendra) Good of Fisher; and a sister, Katrina (Carl Cline) Good of Rantoul.

    Pete was a 1976 graduate of Rantoul Township High School. He was co-owner of G&G Machine Shop in Rantoul. He was known for his affinity and knowledge of anything with an engine. He also farmed in the Rantoul area all his life.

    He loved family vacations at Little Eden Camp in Michigan, watching NASCAR, fishing, gardening and cooking, and catering with his Big Pig Catering buddies.

    Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at East Bend Mennonite Church, rural Fisher.
    A memorial service will be at East Bend Mennonite Church at noon on Monday, Oct. 31, with a visitation one hour before.

    In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to Little Eden Camp; SIMP (Southern Illinois Missionary Partnership); or an organization of the donor's choice.

    Eureka-Lloyd O. Good, 91, of Eureka, formerly of Rantoul, IL passed away at 5:40p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Maple Lawn Health Center in Eureka.
    He was born on May 22, 1919 in Rantoul, IL a son of LeRoy and Leah Eichelberger Good. He married Verda E. Hershberger on June 11, 1944 in Nappanee, IN. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Nicholas (Dr. Judith Kooser) Good of Topeka, KS; Pete (Dawn) Good of Rantoul; Jeffery (Kendra) Good of Fisher, IL; one daughter, Katrina Good (Carl Cline) of Rantoul, IL; three sisters, Verda (T.C.) Moyer of Perkasie, PA; Verna Birkey of Eureka; Eunice Birky of Gibson City; eight grandchildren, Leah (Brad) Good Hunsberger, Anna Good, Jacob Good, Laura Good, Johannah Good, Amelia Good, Caleb Good, Jeremy Good; and one great grandson, Ethan Bash. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marion Zehr.
    During World War II he was in the Civilian Public Service where he sang in a quartet. After the war he returned to farming near Rantoul, IL. He was a ditch Commissioner in the Rantoul area. He was a member of East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher, IL where he served as an elder and taught adult Sunday school for many years.
    Lloyd spent his last years at Maple Lawn Health Center in Eureka. He was a loving husband of 66 years, a loving father, grandfather and a caring neighbor.
    Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher, IL. Rev. Doug Hicks and Michael Dean will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4-7 at the church in Fisher. Cremation rites will be accorded.
    Burial of ashes will be in East Bend Memory Gardens. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial service will also be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Maple Lawn Assembly Hall in Eureka. Rev. Doug Hicks will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Lawn Homes or East Bend Mennonite Church.

    “Not long after the end of the war, Lloyd was discharged and they returned to Fisher, Illinois to live on an 80-acre farm that Lloyd’s parents had bought for them. They lived there until Lloyd’s parents passed away, and then they moved into the thirteen-bedroom farmhouse. . . .”

    EUREKA – Verda E. Good, 97, of Eureka, formerly of Rantoul, died on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Select Care, formerly Maple Lawn Health Center, in Eureka.

    She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Miami Township, Ind., a daughter of Leander and Wilma (Smeltzer) Hershberger. She married Lloyd Good on June 11, 1944, in Nappanee, Ind. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2010.

    She is survived by three children, Nicholas (Judith Kooser) Good of Topeka, Kan., Katrina (Carl Cline) Good of Rantoul and Jeff (Kendra) Good of rural Fisher; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Good of Rantoul; and a sister, Gladys Cone of South Bend, Ind., who turned 100 in October. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Leah (Brad) Hunsburger of Goshen, Ind., Anna (Ben Larson) Good of Champaign, Jacob (Gaby Vallejos) Good of Rantoul, Jeremy Good of Rantoul, Laura (Chris) Fondia of Champaign, Caleb (Brittany) Good of Fisher, Johannah (Kyle) Dietrich of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Amelia Good of Lenexa, Kan.; and three great-grandchildren.

    Her parents, husband, two brothers, three sisters and her son, Pete Good, preceded her in death.

    Verda received her teaching certificate from Goshen College and moved to Illinois, where she taught in a number of one-room schoolhouses in the Dewey and Fisher area prior to her marriage to Lloyd. In 1972, she earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She taught remedial reading at Ludlow Grade School, Ludlow, for many years and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

    Verda was a member of East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, for over 70 years and was active as an elder, librarian, teacher and member of the women's sewing circle. She served on many committees and task forces of the Illinois Mennonite Conference.

    Verda was an accomplished seamstress and spent many hours in retirement working with friends and family on a wide range of quilting and needlework projects. She and her husband had a deep love of music and ensured that all of their children had opportunities to receive musical training.

    She maintained a large garden, and one of her favorite activities was bird-watching. She was a farm wife who was also always a volunteer, from teaching English to Vietnamese students and hosting U of I foreign exchange students to reading aloud to residents at Maple Lawn Health Center.

    There will be a memorial service at noon Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, preceded by visitation with the family from 10 a.m. to noon.

    The family requests memorials to Little Eden Camp (Onekama, Mich.) or to East Bend Mennonite Women in lieu of other expressions of sympathy.

    Peter, son of the late Chris and Pheobe Good, was born at Hopedale, Ill., Oct. 22, 1863; died very suddenly at his home in Fisher, Ill., Sept. 19, 1946; aged 82 y. 10 m. 27 d. As a young man he gave his life to Christ and united with the Hopedale Mennonite Church. On Feb. 4, 1892, he was united in marriage to Mary Naffziger. They first lived at Flanagan, and then moved to a farm near Rantoul. There they lived until five years ago, when they retired and moved to Fisher. Surviving are his widow, 4 sons (LeRoy, Ivan, and Joseph, all of Rantoul; and Arthur, Paxton, Ill., 5 daughters (Carrie--Mrs. Ezra Yordy, Eureka, Ill.; ElsieMrs. Emanuel Birkey, Kouts, Ind.; Laura--Mrs. Jesse Heiser, of Fisher; Alta--Mrs. Lester Hershey, Chicago, Ill.; and Bessie--Mrs. Melvin Greiser, Dewey, Ill.), 32 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. John Reeser, Metamora, Ill.), and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sept. 22 at the home, in charge of Harold Zehr, and at the East Bend Church, Fisher, in charge of J. A. Heiser, C. L. Graber, and C. F. Derstine. Burial was made in the East Bend Mennonite Cemetery.


    Four of Peter’s sons sang together for years at East Bend Mennonite Church--many times for funerals. Peter drove the team of horses which pulled the hearse to the cemetery, according to an interview in “By the Bend of the River” video.

    Peter purchased 309 acres of land in Section 13 of East Bend Township from John Wingle on March 7, 1900. August Unzicker had formerly lived on this farm. The Good family came to the area from Livingston County.

    Good, Mary, daughter of Joseph and Barbara Naffziger, was born March 31, 1871, near Delavan, Ill.; on Jan. 12, after an illness of 3 weeks, she departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Melvin Grieser, Dewey, Ill.; aged 85 y. 10m. 12 d. In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and became a member of the Mennonite Church at Hopedale, Ill. At the time of her death she was a member of the East Bend congregation near Fisher, Ill. On Feb. 4, 1892, she was married to Peter Good, who preceded her in death in 1946. They made their home in Livingston County until 1900 when they moved to Champaign County, where they resided the remainder of their lives. Surviving are 5 daughters (Mrs. Ezra Yordy, Eureka, Ill.; Mrs. Emanuel Birky, Kouts, Ind.; Mrs. Jesse Heiser, Fisher, Ill.; Mrs. Lester T. Four sisters and 3 brothers preceded her in death. She constantly sought the will of the Lord for her life and constantly yielded herself to it. She found great delight in entertaining guests, and speaking with her was always an inspiration. Her witness and testimony will continue to live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren.     John Eichelberger was born in Bavaria, Germany, Feb. 28, 1862; died at the home of his son George, Paxton, Ill., Feb. 9, 1945; aged 82 y. 11 m. 8 d. He came to America as a young many and settled in Tazewell Co., Ill. Later he moved to Paxton, where in 1892 he was united in marriage to Maria Sepp, who preceded him in death in March, 1940. Surviving are four children (Carl Sepp and Mrs. Leroy Good, Rantoul, Ill.; Mrs. Arthur Good and George Eichelberger, Paxton Ill.), one sister (Mrs. Mary Rentsch, Cissna Park, Ill.), 23 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
