    Neuhauser.-Eliza Salzman was born Sept. 21, 1849, at New Orleans, La., died of heart failure at Gridley, Ill., Feb. 17, 1920; aged 70 y. 4 m. 27d. On July 23, 1871, she was married to Joseph Zehr. Three sons were born to this union: viz., Emanuel, Edwin, and George (deceased). Her husband died in 1882. On June 11, 1907, she was married to Valentine Neuhauser of Gridley, Ill. She leaves a sorrowing husband, 2 sons, 2 brothers, one half-sister; 10 grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church from her youth and was loved by all who knew her. Funeral services were held at the Hopedale Mennonite Church the 19th with Bros. Dan Slagel of Flanagan and J. C. Birky of Hopedale, in charge.

    ZEHR.-George Zehr died April 16, 1904, at the home of his son, Christian Zehr, near Minier, Ill., at the age of about 78 years. He had been sick quite a long time, but was very patient in his affliction. His hope was built on Jesus' blood and righteousness. He was a member of the A. M. congregation at Hopedale, Ill. Buried April 17, in the A. M. burying ground near Hopedale, Ill. Funeral by John Egli, Sr., in German and Samuel Gerber in English. John C. Birky

    ZEHR. - On June 12, 1899, near Hopedale, Tazewell Co., Ill., Barbara Littwiller, wife of George Zehr, aged 67 years, 8 months and 17 days. She leaves her husband, four children, twenty-one grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She lived in matrimony forty-eight years, was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church and well liked by all who know her. She always admonished her children to do good, and tried to do good herself. She always had hopes and was glad to go to Jesus. She was buried on the 14th. Funeral services were conducted by John Egli, J. Littwiller, J. Egli and J. C. Birky. C.

    Saltzmann-Near Hopedale, Ill, March 18, 1903, Mitchell Saltzmann. He was born March 8, 1817, came to this country in 1844, was married to Elizabeth Schrock, April 10, 1848. To this union four sons and two daughters were born. His companion preceded him to the spirit world four years ago. He reached the age of 86 Y, 10 D and leaves six children, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren to mourn their loss. Funeral services at the A.M. church March 20th, by John C Birky, John Egli, and Joseph Egli. Interment in the A.M graveyard west of Hopedale.

She lived in matrimony over 50 years, and leaves her aged companion, four sons and two daughters, 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many friends to mourn their loss. She was a faithful member of the Amish Mennonite congregation and was deeply interested in the spiritual welfare of her children and of the church. Buried on the 21st of March. Funeral services by Joseph and John Egli, Daniel Nafziger and J. C. Birky. C.

    Joseph and Barbe sailed from Le Havre with Barbe's brother Peter in May 1830, arriving at New York in July. They raised their family in Butler County. After Barbe's death Joseph brought his children to Dillon, where Joseph appears on the census in 1860 and 1880.

    “Mennonite family Schrag from Giesing (Community Au) six family members together have 1000 Gulden as John Schrag counted out for the tribunal. The family is from the Bavarian Rhine District (Palatinate) with the following persons: Jakob, 84 years old previously farmed several estates, now in Giesing supported by his children. Children: Magdalena, servant with farmer Haslinger in Giesing; Katharina at home with her father; Joseph, hired hand in Kloster Scheyern; Johann, works as brandywine maker; Daniel, hired hand with farmer Glaser in Freimann. A son of Jakob Schrag of the first marriage with the name Jakob Muller [called a step-son in the first application] emigrated to America 13 years ago and settled in ‘Wilmont.’ He left behind a child by Barbara W., hired girl in Weissenfels by Pardorf, Munich, Katharina Muller, who is now 13 years old and is now in the care of the Mennonite Holly at Linden, District of Ebersberg. The Schrag family wish to take this child with them to America. Mother and guardian are agreed. The sons of Schrag performed their military duty. No other hindrance. The family, for three years in Giesling, complains that they are being sent around from one authority to the other. (2 Dec 1837)

    They farmed at Kösching, a suburb of Ingolstadt, adjacent to Hellmannsberg, where the Sutters leased an estate in 1811.

    Christian died near Munich in 1831. His parents, brothers, and sisters went to Canada in 1837.

She leaves four children, 23 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. Her last words were, 'Come, Lord Jesus.' Buried in the Pleasant Grove graveyard. Funeral services by D. Roth, P. Ropp, Em. and Joseph Litwiller, and Joseph Buercky, of Tiskilwa, Ill."

    Elizabeth traveled to Butler Co., OH with her daughter Barbara after the death in Germany of her husband where Barbara may have met and become engaged to Joseph Heiser. From there they went to the Elm Grove area of Tazewell Co. She may have been a daughter of Christian “Christel Burcky/Bircki and Barbara/Barbe Koch.
