    Noah Birkey, prominent retired farmer of Morton, died at his home in that city this morning at 1:50 o'clock. He was a member of the Defenseless Mennonite church … burial in the Mennonite Cemetery east of Groveland. He was a son of Andrew L. and Katherine Littwiller Birkey and was born in Tremont township, Dec. 3, 1854. His marriage, which took place in Pekin, April 2, 1891, was to Miss Magdalena Dully, who with one son, Aaron A. Birkey, of Morton, and two grandchildren, Thelma Aurelia, and Lyle Norman Birkey survive him. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Amos and Peter Birkey, and Mrs. Kate Ramseyer, Fort Wayne, Ind. Two brothers, Aaron and Dan Birkey, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Rodiger, preceded him in death. Mr. Birkey had been a resident of Tazewell County all of his life. He was an honorable, upright man who enjoyed the confidence, response and custom of all who knew him.

    MORTON (CB) – Mrs. Lena Birky, 80, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in her Morton home, 309 N. Main street, after being seriously ill for the past three weeks. … A Morton resident for the past 33 years. Mrs. Birky was born in Groveland township,
    Jan. 12, 1873, a daughter of Michael and Magdalena Wageman Dully. She was married to Noah Birky April 12, 1891. He died Dec. 5, 1928. Surviving are one son, Aaron Birky, Morton; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Cline (correct: Klein), Groveland; Mrs. Mary Stormer, Mackinaw; and Mrs. Elizabeth Thielbar, Pekin; and one brother, Joseph Dully, Morton. She was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters, and one grandson, Lyle Birkey. Funeral services will be conducted … at 1:45 p.m. in the Groveland Evangelical Mennonite church, of which Mrs. Birky was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    LANDES MENNONITE CEMETERY
    On July 25, 1864, Joseph purchased a 5.5-acre timberland parcel at Elm Grove from Andreas/Andrew Birky and Catherine Litwiller. This added a strip along the south edge of his original Groveland land. The land was situated just north of a place on Dillon Creek where baptisms were held by the Pleasant Grove congregation.
    After the trees were cleared, one-half acre was set aside to be used as a burial ground for the Pleasant Grove congregation. When the first five families bought portions from the congregation, it created Landes Mennonite Cemetery (also called Landes-Birky Cemetery).

    Michael Dully, prominent resident of Groveland township, died at his home there early this morning at the age of 83 years. His death being due to the infirmities of age, after a short illness. He was a son of Christian and Catherine Froelich Dully and was born in Hofstatten, Germany, on March 3, 1845. His marriage which was to Magdalena Wageman, took place in Pekin Dec. 12, 1867. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Katherine Klein and Mrs. Anna M. Krug, Groveland; Mrs. Mary Stormer, Mackinaw; Mrs. Magdalena Birky and Joseph Dully, Morton; George M. Dully and Mrs. Elizabeth Theilen (correct: Thielbar), Groveland. Two daughters are deceased. He also leaves two brothers, Peter, Pekin and Henry Dully of Dexter Mo., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Van Dyke, Peoria. Thirty-four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also
    survive. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical church and of the A. F. and A. M. of Morton. Funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Mission church in Groveland. Services will be conducted by Revs. Albro and Ben Birkey. Burial will be in the Defenseless Mennonite cemetery.

    Michael DULLY, Protestant, day laborer in Palatinate, farmer in Illinois. * 03 Mar 1845 Mosisbruch near Hofstätten, Palatinate, Kingdom of Bavaria, German Confederation. Baptized 01 May 1845 at parsonage of Wilgartswiesen, Palatinate, Kingdom of Bavaria (Sponsors: Michael FRÖHLICH & Margaretha DULLY, Protestants of Hofstätten). Michael on his turn was sponsor on 23 Jul 1860 at the baptism of his niece Anna Maria FRÖHLICH. In 1865 Michael immigrated with his fiancé Magdalena WAGEMANN and her family from Hofstätten via Le Havre, France to USA. The passage was on the ship Mercury, arriving New York on 02 May 1865. President Lincoln had just been shot a short time before and a huge funeral procession was being held in New York city at that time. Eight years after that, on 17 Feb 1874 Michael expressed his intention to become a citizen of the USA in Tazewell County, Illinois (see below). Two years later, on 06 Sep 1876 he got naturalized and was a prominent farmer and resident of Groveland Township. † 14 Jan 1929 Groveland Township, Tazewell County, Illinois; he was 83. Buried in Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery, Groveland, Tazewell County, Illinois.
    On 10 Dec 1867 at the age of 22, Michael married at the St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois.

    Mrs. Magdalena Dully, Morton township’s oldest resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lena Birkey here this morning (Thursday at 4:05
    a.m., at the age of 96 years, three months and 26 days. Mrs. Dully suffered a paralytic stroke several days ago from which she never recovered.
    „Grandma“ as she was known to everyone, had enjoyed unusually good health in her span of life and friends had predicted that she would easily
    reach the century mark. The stroke came suddenly, however, and she was was unable to talk. Death came quietly in the early hour, to end many
    years of commendable service to humanity. Magdalena Wageman Dully was born at Hermansburg (correct: Hermersbergerhof), Germany, on December
    13, 1839, and passed away at Morton April 9, 1936. She was the daughter of Henry Wageman and Catherine Eichelberger. She was united in
    marriage to Michael Dully at Pekin December 10, 1867. Mr. Dully passed away in January, 1929. She came to America in a sail boat with her parents,
    and it took 35 days to cross the Atlantic. When the boat reached New York, the passengers were not allowed to land as there was an epidemic
    of small pox. After three days they were allowed to land and Mrs. Dully delighted in relating the sight which greeted her eyes. President Lincoln
    had been shot a short time before and a huge funeral procession was being held in New York City. Mrs. Dully came to Morton, when there were
    only two stores in the town. Most of her life was spent in this township and in Groveland township, where her husband was engaged in Farming.
    After the death of her husband she came to Morton, living with her children, Mrs. Lena Birkey and Joseph Dully here. Surviving are the following
    children, Mrs. Kate Klein, Mrs. Anna Krug, of Groveland; Mrs. Mary Stormer of Mackinaw; Mrs. Lena Birkey and Joseph Dully of Morton and
    Mrs. Elizabeth Thielbar of Pekin. Two children preceded her in death. Three brothers and one sister also preceded her in death. Mrs. Dully, in
    spite of her old age, was kind and considerate to her family and her host of friends. She was a good neighbor, a friend whose friendship lived with
    the many years, and was beloved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her friends, and in her children’s homes. She celebrated many
    happy birthdays, with friends calling throughout the day to congratulate her, and it was a memorable event in the life of the community each year.
    In December she was the honored guest at a Masonic celebration and took part in the festivities of the occasion. She was a long and faithful
    member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical church. Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Lena Birkey Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. and at the
    Defenseless Mennonite church at Groveland at 2 p.m. Burial will be made in the church cemetery

Baptized 25 Dec 1839 Wilgartswiesen, Palatinate, Kingdom of Bavaria (Sponsors: Michael GELDNER and Magdalena EICHELBERGER, both single). Magdalena emigrated in 1865 from Hofstätten via Le Havre, France with her parents and her fiancé Michael DULLY to USA. Immigrated 02 May 1865 at New York. † 09 Apr 1936 Morton, Tazewell County, Illinois; she was 96 years old and the oldest citizen of Morton. Buried on 11 Apr 1936 in Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery, Groveland, Tazewell County, Illinois.

After the death of her husband, Magdalena moved from Groveland Township to her daughter Magdalena 'Lena' DULLY BIRKEY at Morton, Tazewell County, Illinois.
