Notes - One of four Anabaptist families living at Haras:
“Jean Birky (a son of André and Barbe Birky Schantz, born 1788) and his wife Madeleine Schertz (Schertz daughter of Andre miller Lorentzen and Barbara Bachmann, born 1794) left Lorentzen to settle in to Haras 1817. They had four children between 1817 and 1825, two of whom died during this period. On June 14, 1825 Jean Birky died in turn. At the same time, Andrew Birky brother of John, who was married Barbe Ruffenacht in 1813 in Diemeringen (67), also worked at the stud since 1817; the couple had a child in 1818 and another in 1823. After the death of John, the family left for Sarralbe Gros-Réderching (57) where his wife Madeleine died June 21, 1836. André Bircky meanwhile is died in 1841 at Dehlingen (67)”
This couple had four children between 1817 and 1825, two of whom died during this period. After Jean’s death in 1825, his family, along with brother André and his family, moved to Gros-Rederching. [9, 10]
