- Notes for Andrew Parke:
There was an Andrew Parke of Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ who had 78 acres of land surveyed and deeded to him April 20, 1758. However, he received a grant of 8 acres of land in 1757 in Lancaster Co., PA. Moved to Lancaster Co. PA abt. 1758 and then moved to land that he purchased from his brother John Parke II in (old Frederick Co., VA) Hampshire Co. VA. Court records indicated that he sold 11 parcels of land in 1767 in Frederick Co., VA. He is also shown purchasing land in 1771. He bought 182 acres from brother or nephew John, on Edwards Mill Branch; recorded 13 Apr 1774 (from "The Early Records of Hampshire County,West Virginia", p.44, comp.by Clara (McCORMICK) SAGE & Laura (SAGE) JONES) He was paying taxes in Hampshire Co. in 1781. He had had 100 acres of land surveyed for him April 20, 1750 back in Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ which was part of 500 acres belonging to Joseph Stout. He moved to Lancaster Co., PA shortly after marrying. He fought in the Indian wars in the Wyoming Valley, Luzerne Co., PA. After the Indian Wars he settled in Lancaster Co., PA and then Hampshire Co., VA about 1773/4 when Andrew bought from his brother John, 182 acres of land on Edward Mill Branch. While he was in Lancaster Co., PA his brothers, John, Roger & George were already taking up Fairfax Grants in what is now Hampshire Co., WV. Later on they obviously were on their way to join the others and appear to have tarried for awhile in Frederick, MD. Andrew died March 1790, Hampshire Co, VA. on land that he had purchased from nephew John Parke II. Will probated in Hampshire Co., Va., April 15, 1790. "Synopsis of Wills up to 1860". (1976). In his information that he gave on his Rev. War pension application in 1833 he came with his father at age 11 to VA.
Some descendants believe Andrew's wife was Rachel Mosely but there is nothing to verify this. We do know that Andrew's son, John Parke, married a Lettice Mosely. We also know that a Jesse Mosely witnessed Andrew's Will and also witnessed the marriage of Enos Park (son of John and Lettice Mosely). It is possible that Lettice and Jesse were brother and sister.
In Parke Family book while talking about his daughter Sarah it says "while the family resided in Lancaster Co., PA - his son John said that the family came to Hampshire Co., VA when he was 11 - in 1773. So Andrew remained in PA long after his brothers John & George came and received their Fairfax land grants in 1752-54 in Frederick (later Hampshire) Co., VA (later WV).
He resided for awhile on his parent's 400 acre tract near Capon Bridge, WV (present day River Road) There is a graveyard (Kale cemetery) on the northern end of this tract - the John Parke graveyard.

While Andrew and Rachel are found in Lancaster Co., Pa - records stop after this, his brothers, John, Roger and George were already taking up Fairfax grants in what is now Hampshire Co. West Va. Later on they were on their way to join the others and appear to have tarried for awhile in Frederick, Md, because son John, was born there in 1762 and came with his father at age 11 (according to info he gave on Rev. War pension application in 1833) to Va. According to the "The Early Records of Hampshire Co. VA. - p 44" Andrew Parke bought 182 acres of land from his brother John and wife Susanna on Edwards Mill Branch, recorded Apr 13, 1774. (this is a note here from me-Susan Balde Avery - this person has mixed up his brother John II with his nephew John III who was married to Susannah Elrod).
Andrew Parke died in Hampshire County on March 18, 1790 and his will is registered in the Hampshire County Court.
Andrew Parke is given on Elias Posten's Census List in that county in 1784 as being among "Heads of Families" there. He died on March 18, 1790 and his will is registered in the Hampshire County Court. His wife is not mentioned, so must have died before him.
They had 7 children, John Parke married Lettice Mosely and (2) Mary Darrell. Samuel Parke, whose first wife Hannah Edwards died, he then married her sister Nancy Edwards. Sarah Parke married---Jonathan Shinn while the family resided in Lancaster, PA. and she remained there. (me - sba, not sure she did since she later married into the Edwards family). Ruth Parke, married Francis Patton and they came to live in Hampshire Co for awhile and later went to Harrison Co., WV. Hannah Parke married John Thomas and lived in Hampshire Co. for awhile and then they moved westward. Rachel Parke became the 2nd wife of George Nixon; she later married James McBride. Amos Parke married Susanna Miller and they remained in Hampshire Co. until Ohio became a state in 1800 and then they became pioneers in Licking Co.
