- Clarence Hubert Ropp dropped his first name and became known as Hubert. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and later became the Dean of the Institute. He married Gladys Wright. The two lived for a time in Chicago. Marshall Field, who lived north of Chicago in Lake Bluff, Illinois, commissioned Hubert to do the interior design and decoration for his home. A part of his payment included a home for Hubert and his family on the edge of the Field Estate. Hubert and Gladys lived there for the remainder of their lives. Their only daughter Kay was born and reared there. Hubert's art work included a portrait of his high school friend Everett Dirksen. Gladys died in 1972 at the age of seventy-seven. Hubert died in 1973. He was seventy-nine years old. [4]
