  • Notes 
    • According to his Gospel Herald obituary, Christian Engel was born in Rhinepfalz, Germany July 16, 1818. He emigrated from Europe in 1846 and settled in Monroe, Butler County, Ohio. He married Susan Miller Oct. 15, 1854 and moved to Bloomington the same year. She died Jan. 17, 1861, and Christian remarried in 1862 to Magdalene Ehrisman from the Morton area. She died May 16, 1879, and her services were conducted by bishop Joseph Stuckey. Christian died Jan. 17, 1912.
