    • Mrs. Pelsy Died at Age 106

      Mrs. Catherine Pelsy of Francesville, Ind., passed away at the age of 106 years Jan. 7. **

      Mrs. Catherine E. Pelsy was born in Marshall County*, Illinois, February 19, 1861, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Smith) Leman. She was married to Joseph Pelsy at Roanoke on February 19, 1879, and to them were born twelve children. They lived one-half mile south of Roanoke, moving to Francesville, Ind., in 1910. Mr. Pelsy passed away in July, 1930.

      She is survived by six children, Martha and Louise, at home, Mrs. Barbara Wuethrich, John and Emil also of Francesville, and Paul of Rensselaer, Ind. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 128 great grandchildren and 49 great-great grandchildren. One sister and four brothers also survive, Henry Leman, 88, Francesville. William Leman, 83, of Bremen, Ind. Joe Leman, 93, Morton (formerly of Roanoke), Alf Leman, 74, and Eliza Leman, 76, both of Eureka.

      Her oldest daughter, Mary Wuethrich, passed away June 11, 1966, and her oldest son, Joe Pelsy, preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1960.

      On her 100th birthday she received a card of congratulations from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Mrs. Pelsy once said that she never kept track of her age, but “lived each day by itself and trusted in God.”

      She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church 88 years.

      She had been semi-bedfast since she was injured in a fall about five years ago.

      Funeral services were conducted Jan. 10 at 10:30 o'clock in the Apostolic Christian Church of Francesville, Ind., with Rev. Joseph Zimmerman of Roanoke officiating. Burial was in Roseland cemetery east of Francesville.
