  • Notes
    • Anabaptist minister Jakob Hostetler was born at Winterkraut near Guggisberg, Bern (21 miles west of Steffisburg). He fled from prison in 1698, and settled at La Petite Lièpvre near Ste. Marie-aux-Mines [Ger. Markirch] in Upper Alsace. A Thun court document describes how 'Jacob Hoofstetter' had secretly returned from a stay in Markirch to hasten the emigration of several women who had been left behind. He was arrested and exiled again. It is also possible that he visited Baden briefly after the expulsion of Mennonites from Alsace in 1713. His wife's name is not known. [1]
