CHENOA — Roland K. Stalter, 87, of Meadows Mennonite Home, formerly of Chenoa, died at 6 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 7, 2014) at the home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Prairieview Mennonite Church, Gridley. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with visitation from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Fred Criminger will officiate. Burial will follow at Waldo Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Prairieview Mennonite Church, Wycliffe Bible Translators or Camp Fairwood, Westfield, Wis.
Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan, is in charge of arrangements.
Roland was born July 2, 1927, in Chenoa, Livingston County, to Wilbert and Margaret Brave Stalter. He married Violet E. Good on July 15, 1949, in Fisher. She survives in Normal.
Also surviving are his children, Helen (Ura) Gingerich, Goshen, Ind.; Mervin (Barb) Stalter, Monticello; and Doris (Jerry) Foster, Mahomet; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Peg Stalter, Gibson City; brothers, Darrell (Fae) Stalter, Fisher; Kenneth (Doris) Stalter, Clinton; and Wesley (June) Stalter, Chenoa; and sister-in-law, Mary Stalter, Bloomington.
His parents; one son, Ivan Stalter; one daughter, Rachel Stalter; one brother, Leland Stalter; and one sister, Faith Ratzlaff; preceded him in death.
Roland farmed in the Chenoa area from 1949 to 1972, then in Chatsworth from 1973 to 1984. They moved to Wisconsin in 1984 and Roland worked in a machine shop until he retired. Upon retiring, he opened his own woodworking shop. In 1992, they moved to Meadows Mennonite Community until May 2014, when they relocated to Meadows at Mercy Creek assisted living.
He enjoyed working in his garden and growing trees from seeds. His homes were surrounded by trees that he grew, collected and transplanted.
