Notes - Excepts from Mamie’s “autobiography” written 9 Oct 1974:
“….We moved from Missouri when we ere small children so don’t remember very much about our grandparents. I have always been sorry that we couldn’t have known them better. Grandma Blackwell died before we twins were born.
“Work was hard to get in Missouri so we moved to the southern part of Illinois to a town by the name of Carlysle and also another town by the name of Taylor Springs. Dad worked in the coal mines there. There were four of us children now so it kept dad and mother busy.
“Then one day dad met a man that knew a farmer from Fisher, IL., who needed help so we made a move to Fisher and did worked on this farm for some time and we have lived most of our lives around the Fisher community. I was about eight or nine years of age by now. Dad then went to work on another farm nearby and this was a Christian family who attended the Mennonite Church and he like this man so well because he lived the Christian life. [2]
