Notes - Obit:
Yordy, Anna M., daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Roeschley) Yordy, was born at Flanagan, Ill., Mar. 9, 1885; died at Eureka Hospital, Eureka, Ill., Jan. 18, 1975; aged 89 y. Surviving are 4 brothers (Ezra, Jonas, Walter, and Alvin), and one sister (Mrs. Josephine Schrock). She was a member of Roanoke Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Jan. 20, in charge of Percy Gerig; interment in Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery.
Following are remarks given by Alvin Yordy at the Joseph Yordy Reunion, June 10, 1978:
"Anna, the second oldest, spent many years as a missionary and worker at the Mennonite Home Mission, Chicago. Her work with the 'fresh-air children' from low income minority homes was a source of satisfaction to hundreds of children from the inner city. Many had never been on a farm before. Anna had a great appreciation for things artistic and beautiful. I, personally, appreciated her caring for me for six weeks while I was sick with the flu and scarlet fever at Goshen, Indiana, in 1919. She was quarantined along with me and cared for me with her semi-professional nursing skills."
“Those serving extended periods of time (at Chicago Home Mission)...were Anna Yordy (1885-1975), Eureka, Illinois (as a chiropractor she treated approximately a hundred patients a year as part of the mission work),....Anna Yordy’s statement is characteristic of their spirit: There is not one moment of regret in the long years spent in His service. The only regret is that not more has been accomplished for Him.” [7]
