—————————————
Andrew did much to promote an interest in missions among the East Bend Mennonite congregation. He served on the first board of the Eureka Home for the Aged (Maple Lawn). He was also a member of the board of the Mennonite Hospital. He served as one of the early trustees for the new East Bend Mennonite Church.
To identify this Andrew from several other Andrew Birkys, he was called “Lame” since he had a lame leg. [7, 8]
