Notes - “My grandmother: Hettie Leora Reed was the daughter of Virginia and Zachary. they also had an infant daughter Ivy. My grandmother’s story was that her father (Zachary) was working in the fields when the house caught on fire. She was very young but managed to escape through a window with a chair, but her mother, Virginia, and infant sister perished in the fire. Zachary died in Sullivan or Union in the state nursing home, but by the time they wrote to her (Hettie--who was married by then) they had already buried him. The really odd thing is they didn’t know where. They only knew someone picked up the body. I think Zachary had a sister Lily who married a Davis.”
