Samuel Louis Roth, who for almost 60 years had resided in this community, passed away at his home seven miles south of Fairbury last Friday. He was aged 68 years, 4 months, 4 days.
Samuel Roth, son of Andrew and Anna Zimmerman Roth, was born near Washington on April 11th, 1859. When nine years of age he moved with the other members of the family to near Fairbury and had since resided in this vicinity.
Surviving Mr. Roth are the following children: Sam, Jr., of Forrest, and Katie, Anna, Mary, Joe, Ben, John and Harry, at home. Two children preceded their father in death, Lydia passing away in 1911, and Nettie in 1919. There also survive one brother, John, of Wichita, Kan., and one sister, Miss Katie Roth, of Fairbury.
Mr. Roth was a citizen whose honesty and integrity were never questioned during the many years he had lived in our midst. He was a good neighbor and a kind father and husband.
The funeral services were held at the South Christian Apostolic Church Monday, and was one of the most largely attended funerals ever held at this church, many of those present being from points in Indiana and Iowa. The Rev. Mr. Schwint, Gridley, Kan., preached in German, and the Rev. Michael Mangold, of Roanoke, spoke in English. The pallbearers were the four sons of the deceased, Sam, Joe, Ben and John, and his two nephews, Dan Roth, of Chicago, and Dan Roth, of Forrest. Interment was in the South Cemetery.
Sam Roth married in 1881-1885 to Lydia Schrock (08/21/1857 -05/25/1885) and had one child Catherine Roth 11/09/1883 - 08/08/1966.
Samuel Roth remarried to Margaret Schini 08/16/1865-10/06/1895, They had four children:
1. Anna Roth - 01/08/1888 - 12/05/1980
2. Lydia Roth - 10/04/1890 - 05/25/1911
3. Mary Roth - 04/11/1892 - 05/14/1958
4. Samuel L Roth Jr 04/19/1895 - 08/12/1991 married on December 27, 1224 to Hilda Waibel 12/26/1903 - 08/061990. They had one child Helen Jean Roth 12/12/1932-06/14/1993. She was married to Curtis Koch of Morton, IL
Sam Roth remarried Rosa Hari (04/15/1871-05/31/1965. They had five children.
1. Natalie Roth 02/11/1898 - 03/01/1919
2. Joseph L Roth 09/09/1907 - 07/12/1987 in Peoria married on May 11, 1940 to Jane D Galli (January 20, 1010- ). They adopted one child. Rita Rose Roth (04/21/1951 - ) on May 31, 1969 married to J Patrick Baralomucci (03/10/1948 - ) - 2 children: Mark Bartalomucci (08/01/1970 - )and Catherine Bartalomucci (03/13/1972 - ). Divorced and remarried Rick Nelson (05/04/1951 - ). They had one child Joshua Nelson (06/1975) Wheaton, IL.
3. Benjamin Andrew Roth 11/12/1908 - 03/03/1984 in Glendale, CA. On May 16, 1936 in Bloomington, IL married Marnie Thompson (09/06/1913 - ). They had 3 children. Rosa Jane Roth (Ronald) Clyde, Dixie Ann Roth (Thomas George) Wicker, Ben G Roth (Riche Rogoni).
4. John LeRoy Roth 03/02/1910 -05/26/1998) on December 5, 1936 married to Martha Rosena Knapp (01/21/1914 - ). They had 4 children Corrine Roth (William) Ross, Nancy Katherine Roth (Glen Allen) Pfeifer, John Lincoln Roth (Susan Marie York), Samuel Charles Roth (Theresa Sater).
5. Harry William Roth 01/12/1913 - ) on February 24, 1937 married Rachel Pauline Popejoy (07/31/1917 - 02/12/1990). They had 5 children: Jerry Roth (Kathryn L Pace), Robert Stanley Roth (Portia Sparks 1960 - 2 children) & (Connie Kay Runyon 1 child plus she had 2), Allen Roth married twice (Dorothy O'Malley), Harry William Roth, Jr. (Cheryl DeLee Beegle), Glen Steven Roth (Penny Lorraine Pershing).
