Yoder. - Joseph Yoder was born Dec. 18, 1841 in Munich, Germany and came to America at the age of 14 years; died at the home of his son John in Goodfield, Ill., June 18, 1928; aged 86 y. 6 m. He was united in marriage to Magdalene Schrock on Dec. 18, 1866. This union was blessed with 6 children of whom 4 are still living (Mrs. Charles Pepper, John, Joseph, and William). His wife, 1 son, and 1 daughter preceded him in death. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Goodfield, Ill., June 21, 1928, conducted by Bro. George Gundy. The remains were laid to rest beside his wife in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Deer Creek, Ill.
The Christian Evangel obit adds the following:
The music was furnished by a quartette composed of Messrs. Harry Crosman and I. H. Coulter and Misses Constance Mashall and Hazel Nixon, with Mr. Williams at the piano. The pall bearers were W. F. Smith, S. A. Heiser, Amos Zehr, Jacob King, Joseph Shelly and Alvin Wolber.
Among those who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Yoder, son and daughter of Hamlet, Ind.; Firman Yoder of Alton; Chris Birkey, John Schrock and Misses Lena and Ella Schrock of Fisher; Ben Kauffman of Melvin; George Mevull of Lincoln; John Schrock and son of Pekin; Mrs. Kate Stecker of Peoria, besides a number of relatives and friends from Eureka, Washington, Carlock, Deer Creek and Congerville.
“His death entry gave no information about his father, and stated that he was a son of Mary Fisher. He was naturalized as 'Joseph Joder' in the circuit court at Livingston County Nov. 30, 1876. They appear on the 1900 census of Kansas and Montgomery Townships as farmer Joseph Yoder, 58, born in Germany to German parents in December 1841; Magdalena, 55, born in Ohio to French parents in April 1845; and John M., 28, born in Illinois to German parents in December 1871. The 1910 census of shows Joseph Yoder, 68, born in Germany to German parents; Magdalene, 65, born in Ohio to German parents; and William, 24, born in Illinois to German parents. They are buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Deer Creek." [4]
