      Gladys M. Nichols, died Monday, July 29, 2013 at Brookefield Park, St. Paul, Nebraska. Gladys was born July 9, 1920 in Shickley, Nebraska to Sam and Alma (Wertz) Schrock. 

      Gladys was one of three children in the family. She was united in marriage to Lumir J. Havel on May 27, 1941 in Kimball, Nebraska. To this union four children were born. Her husband, Lumir died on May 28, 1960.

      Gladys worked hard at various jobs throughout her life. Gladys cleaned houses, served as a waitress at Mumby's Café and the Tower Café both in Fairmont, Nebraska and managed the Fairmont (NE.) American Legion Club and worked as a waitress at the Hilltop Café, Geneva, Nebraska.

      On November 22, 1972, Gladys was married to Donald E. Nichols in Geneva, Nebraska. The couple lived in St. Paul, Nebraska for their married life. Her husband Donald "Don" Nichols died on April 6, 2013.

      Gladys was a lifetime member of 61 years of the American Legion Auxiliary #21, Fairmont, Nebraska. She was raised in the First Congregation Faith, Exeter, Nebraska.

      Survivors are: son, Richard Havel of Grand Island, Nebraska; daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Dick Jantzi of Fairmont, Nebraska and Kay and Tom Hassler of Columbus, Nebraska; stepson, Frank Nichols of Utica, Nebraska; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a host of family and friends.

      Gladys was preceded in death by: parents; husbands, Lumir Havel and Don Nichols; infant daughter, Joanne Havel; grandson, Shane Jantzi and sisters, Bernice Burmood and Doris Roberts.

      Graveside services were at the Bohemian Cemetery, Wilber, Nebraska.
