GIBSON CITY – Viola Oyer, 90, of rural Gibson City died at 8:42 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Heritage Manor in Gibson City.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, at Lamb-Young Funeral home in Gibson City. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010, in East Bend Memorial Gardens in Fisher, with family and close friends in attendance. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Oyer was born on Nov. 3, 1919, on the family farm near Milford, Neb., the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Zimmerman) Stauffer. She was baptized as a youth into the East Fairview Mennonite Church. In 1939 she moved to Illinois, working in Hopedale, Peoria and Foosland. She married Vilas Oyer on Oct. 4, 1944, in Peoria; he preceded her in death on March 17, 2006.
Mrs. Oyer was an active member of the East Bend Mennonite Church since 1946. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, various craft projects, and gardening.
Mrs. Oyer is survived by two sons, Jerry S. (Susie) Oyer of Gibson City and Kenneth R. (Marcia) Oyer of Mahomet; two daughters, Anna Marie Oyer of Ephrata, Pa., and Helen Mae (Edward) Amberg of Anaconda, Mont.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilda Schrag of Moundridge, Kan.; and one brother, Clarence Stauffer of Milford, Neb.
Mrs. Oyer was proceeded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Ethel Stauffer and Rose Weaver; two half brothers, Vernon and Irvin Roth; and two half sisters, Alma Hershberger and Edna Ehrisman.
Memorials may be made to the East Bend Mennonite Church.
