      FISHER – Inez Heiser Schaer, 95, of Fisher went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Gibson City Annex.

      She was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Fisher, a daughter of Alvin and Elizabeth (Birkey) Heiser. She married Maurice Schaer on Oct. 14, 1933, in Fisher. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1986.

      She is survived by two daughters, Joan (Robert) Cender of Fisher and Virginia (Wesley) Oyer of Fisher; four grandchildren, Angela (Ken) Beachey of Foosland, Philip (Kristin) Oyer of Ludlow, Jayne (Duane) Eby of Fisher, Timothy Oyer of Thomasboro; and six great-grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by two sisters and a grandson, Maurie Ray Cender.

      Inez owned and operated a tailoring shop in Champaign for many years. She and her husband spent a lot of time in volunteer service through Mennonite Board of Missions, working in multiple states. They were involved with young people, mentoring and acting as house parents. She was a lifelong member of East Bend Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was active in the church sewing circle. They were the first youth sponsors of the church. She loved the Lord and served Him all her life.

      A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at East Bend Cemetery in rural Fisher.

      A celebration of life service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, at the East Bend Mennonite Church, rural Fisher. Rev. Michael Dean will officiate.

      Memorials may be made to East Bend Mennonite Church.
