      Birkey.- Phoebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zimmerman, was born at Princeton. Ill., Jan. 13, 1864 ; passed away Oct. 5, 1946 ; aged 82 y. 8 m. 22 d. On Dec. 30, 1883, she was married to Valentine Birkey, who predeceased her on May 13, 1935. For five years they lived on a farm near Hopedale, Ill., and in 1892 they moved to Champaign County. For the past three years she had made her home with her granddaughter, Mrs. Homer Cender, Goshen, Ind. In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until death. Surviving are 2 sons (Andrew, Fisher, Ill.; and John C., Dewey, Ill.), one daughter (Lena, of Goshen), 7 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, Ill., Oct. 6, with J. A. Heiser and Lester Mann in charge. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
